my morals is to try to reach out to people and give them joy and always treat them with respect. I also try my best not to lie to them.

Treat people how I would like to be treated. Not sure where I heard that....

Right. I'll put it super simple for you.
I don't know everyone on the planet. So I can't know what their preferences are. That's where my comment about mind reading comes in. So, in lieu of mind reading, I can treat people how I would like to be treated until I get to know them. The 'platinum rule' is just an extension of the golden rule. If I know someone and they know me, I will treat them how I now know they would like to be treated because that is how I want to be treated. Try not to be an officious douche.

You can learn the preferences of each individual by experience, and (within reason) keep to them later on.
I had a friend growing up who hated having doors held open for her, due to an "I can do it my damn self" philosophy. It was so bad, several times I held a door when she had two arms full of expensive camera equipment, and literally could not open the door on her own without risking dropping it. Was I violating her preferences in how she wanted to be treated? Sure. But she wasn't being reasonable. It would have been unreasonable for me to stand and watch her struggle, and eventually drop something. 
"As an atheist" I don't have belief in deities, which has nothing to do with my morality. As Becca, I just try to do what I think is best for my loved ones, myself, and society.
Neutral-good alignment

I'm a goddess, I'm a mother I'm a sinner, I'm a saint I do not feel ashamed 
I never give consideration to the fact that I am not a theist in deciding what to do, morally or otherwise.
