Want to be in the community.

RE: Want to be in the community.
Welcome indeed!

I have to be honest with you, mate - I had a helluva hard time reading your post. Once you mentioned you were 13 years old, I was looking for phrases such as, 'I guess it became 2 hard 2 fit in our schedule' and 'YOLO' and 'OMG'. Didn't find any, and my online TeenSpeak translator was no help at all.

Kindly act your age - you're throwing me off. Tongue

I'm a fairly smart kid and so I got through class easily and suddenly had loads of time to study much more complex things (evolution, anthropology, etc.) I started to realize around the age of 10 it was all total crap (religion was) and I deconverted.
...that bias isn't healthy. One of my good friends is a geologist and he sees that elitist attitude towards religion all the time in his workplace, we also have at my church three physicians and a world-renowned astrophysicist. I personally also have an interest in anthropology and in evolution, so don't go thinking that all religious people are stupid, I can provide you with plenty of examples of brilliant ones. Isaac Newton was also religious, albeit a heretic and so were many other brilliant minds. Leonardo certainly believed in God - we don't know exactly what his religious beliefs were, but that much we do know.

I don't think I'm biased towards religious people, just the actual idea of religion bewilders me. I know that religious people can be smart.

Ex. A girl in my grade is a devout catholic but averages a 99.2 in school.

That makes more sense, yes... now write properly. This is not a mobile phone. It's a forum and you can use as many characters as you want to make your point across... no need for abbreviations...
Well... you can use DNA and stuff like that.

Hello there and welcome to AF! ^_^
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Well I can tell you for instance, that here in Australia the Anglican church does more non profit charitable work in the community than any other NPO including all other churches, including the Catholic Church which is larger, including churches like Salvation Army that have community work as a core value.

Does the idea of that bewilder you, or does it sound like a positive thing? There's a member of my church who, years ago now, used to home the homeless in his own home (with his deceased wife and while their own children still lived at home). That's a level of generosity that amazes me. I mean I also know of others who've run homeless shelters, but to do it in your own home is incredible.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

It is not just your religion Daniel. There are many who do the same yet get no credit.

Funny how it is either Cataholics or Stranglicans that bleat the loudest

I disagree, we don't bleat the loudest at all. We get on with what needs to be done...

What "bewilders" me is not the people of religion (although sometimes they do) it's the idea that one must worship a n almighty being in order to be good. That's what bewilders me. Not the people but the actual idea of religion.

For some the idea that an all powerful being watches down on them, protects them and guides them through life can be very appealing and reassuring. I'm just a sock puppet though, and we don't have any Gods, sigh......
