I think if you have to ask that question, you don't fundamentally grasp the problem at hand.

Imagine you're at a restaurant, and suddenly, the place is being robbed at gunpoint. Sitting at the table next to you is the local yokel that fancies himself Dirty Harry, and he whips out his gun and starts firing. Now you've got a gunfight with innocent people caught in the crossfire.

Sure, the restaurant needs to take precautions against gun crime, but the absolute last thing we should be thinking is that adding more guns to the situation is somehow a working solution.

I am terrified! This is something that utterly terrifies me as a person without sight! Knowing that someone could easily kill me and I'd NEVER see it coming! Not to mention they can always use "Stand Your Ground!" and get away Scott free! I'm emailing this video to the NFB in Atlanta! Thanks for posting this! This bill is a danger to sight-impaired citizens everywhere.

I mean, really? How much of a gun fanatic do you have to be to think this is a good idea?

Guns may be allowed in Georgia bars now, but consuming alcohol while in possession of a firearm is still strictly prohibited under the law. This goes for Tennessee which has allowed guns in bars for a while now as well as Georgia.

I'm not aware of any increase in the number of shootings in bars by people with carry permits in Tennessee since a similar law was passed there. If someone has statistics to the contrary I'd be interested in seeing them.

Given human stupidity, I'd say an increase would be all but certain.

When I am on my tractor I wear my seat belt even if I am moving it just a foot to adjust the position of the tractor add or remove an implement. However I often don't put a seat belt on when I drive a car a short distance(like from my mail box to my home). The reason I am more careful on the tractor is because it is much more dangerous then my car.

I am sure a giant spike in the steering wheel would cause people to drive more cautiously and prevent some accidents. However it would also result in some deaths that would not have happened absent the spike.

I tend to think you are probably right....but for the wrong reasons. I don't use my tractor much but I use my car everyday. It is easier for me to remain safety vigilant with my tractor than it is with my car. If there was a spike in the steering wheel, I could simply forget it is there. Forgetfulness is not the same as stupidity.

In states that currently permit concealed carry they already have people in restaurants with guns. The point of carrying the gun is for protection against some dumb ass robbing it at gunpoint. So what does this law do to change the current situation? Nothing. You don't know what you are talking about.

What is the effect of many people carrying concealed guns on crime?

It doesn't take much effort to find that it lowers crime.

Can anyone provide an article/paper that shows concealed guns increase crimes or lead to more gun violence?

Well, if enough of these laws get passed, we will see the effects. Personally, I see it like trying to solve the problem of an out of control freight train by ramming it with another out of control freight train. Sure, it might solve your problem, but you're just creating more issues. We should fight crime by stimulating the economy and making sure there are plenty of jobs, because those are proven factors in lowering the crime rate. It would do us a lot of good to fix our disastrous mental health system, too.
