Quote:Concerned Idaho citizen calls police over public banned book giveaway to high school students

Quote:In early April, the school board voted 2-1 to remove the winner of the 2007 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature from the 10th grade curriculum following complaints from some parents concerned that the book contained sexually charged material and mocked the Christian religion.

I am not a fan of censorship, but I do believe that certain books should be banned.

I wonder which upset them more?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

They can't debunk the criticisms, and they're not allowed to kill heretics, so they just have to ban things that make them uncomfortable.

Sexually charged material already mocks christian values, so it's a two for one.

That they have to live a life of suppressing sexual desires that their religion doesn't allow them to embrace.

Yup, they certainly can't get away with killing us anymore.

By that criteria, the bible mocks Christian values, considering it's full of rape, sex and incest.

Where's Guy Montag when you need 'im?
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Do you want the public schools to have the students read books with sexually charged material?

I would like comprehensive sex education to be in schools, given that abstinence only is unhealthy and doesn't work.
