Anyone suffering from things they learned in the church?

Honestly, I just don't detect any happy atheists in this forum.

We are happy we are no longer bound by the absurdity of religion. Nevertheless we all have more real concerns like work, bills, kids and all those real aspects of life theists have. You know, real life concerns, without a fantasy to hang on like an old blanket, to pretend that you are special, to a sky-daddy that only shows himself to you if you believe it hard enough.

It also gives me great happiness to rub this in the religious's face.

I am a preachers kid. I can tell you I suffered a huge deal from religion. My most dominated issues are more identity issues, due to the standards of being a preachers kid. I never really could come into my own personality 100%. I always had to wear a mask somewhere. Combine that with the moral constraints, the ripple effect has effected my sex life, my emotional ability to cope with certain stresses, and the coping with having to deal with issues myself rather than rely on a sky god.

Well, Turds to you! We've had poll after poll on this forum that shows we are happier as atheist on the whole. I'm definitely happier than I ever was as a christian.
Atheists in general are statistically more educated and less incarcerated than christians and thus are able to cope with reality better.
Christians desperately want us to be unhappy and surly, and thus caricature us in this way as their defense mechanism. They have a problem with reality.

I'm fortunate in that I was one of those kids who believed nothing without proof that I could test myself. You have photos that explain how the VCR works? I won't believe you until I take it apart and see it myself. So while I was primed for religion and had believed that I had visions, they could give me no real reason why I should feel guilty over my sexuality, my desires, or any other natural part of my being.

So while i understand the pain many ex-Catholics are going through I was lucky enough to remain unscathed.

I say 'oh my god' and 'jesus!' all the time, those are expressions influenced by religion, but then again so is our calendar, and I'm not going to stop using it because of it. In fact, don't ask me why but I feel relieved when I say 'jesus!' everytime something out of the ordinary happens, I find the name jesus to be funny. Christians, don't take this as a ticked to convert me!
