Happy Father's Day

RE: Happy Father's Day
Good lookin brood, Cindy.

I'll echo, Happy Father's Day to all the dad's on the interwebs.

No kids for me yet, but I did spend the evening with my dad, (my mom split to go see the grands in KC) who spent the day golfing and cavorting like a bachelor. Brought over some NY Strips, baked some sweet potatoes and nuked some corn on the cob (best way to make it--for real, 2 mins in the microwave with the husk still on, wrapped in a damp paper towel--perfection). We had a wonderful dinner---no girls allowed. Now, beer and watching the Heat get stomped for the 3rd game in a row. Love my dad.

My daughter lives in another state, but I found this on my wall this evening....

Happy fathers day thank you for being the best of both worlds, I wouldn't have had it any other way!!!! I love you so much.

**And Jenny, my daughter was born in 1989, and I swear that every other girl in her school, had the same name as well, ugh! Even though it has become a common name, it's still beautiful.

Well, you do have one gorgeous fur-kid, I see! And they treat you as if everyday is father's day! Smile

RE: Happy Father's Day
No kids for me, but several men I've dated had kids, and various degrees of closeness in their relationships with them. 'John' was extremely paranoid about his daughter, she never knew her dad dated me, I never met her, her dad rarely discussed her with me except as she was the reason we couldn't get together on a particular evening because of some school activity.

'Steve' had no kid (or wife) when we dated, but I found his obit recently and he subsequent to me married 2 different women, and had a daughter by the second. The big 'reveal' in the obit wasn't the wives or the kid, it was my reading between the lines and realizing he managed to achieve his lifetime alcoholic merit badge (death) at age 58.

'Dewey' had been married and had an infant son prior to our relationship. Wife and kid died in a car accident about a year before I met him. I realize now, and FAR, FAR too late, my attitude about his loss was EXTREMELY immature and inappropriate at the time. And when I figured that out, he was long gone, and then, I realized I understood him, and it became a big loss for me too.

'Mike' stuck around with the wifey till his daughter graduated from college. Daughter was PO'd to learn marriage was a 'sham' for pretty much the whole run, and despite 'Mike's' sacrifice (IMO), the bitch still bitterly estranged herself from him. I was better in my response that go round.

Yeah, I think it's a bit odd most of the men I've seriously dated had a kid. In my peer group of friends (such as remain since HIV, which is about 1/2) kids are pretty unusual. At my gay 12 Steppers meetings, the number of kids mentioned is pretty depressing. Bad enough a kid has to cope with an addict parent (or two) but having their parents relationship implode over same sex attraction on top of that tends to really up the collateral damages. (of course, there is a selection bias by my only encountering the ones that wind up in 12 Steppers with me).

Worst 12 Stepper meeting I've been to on the topic of fathers and kids, would have been the one where a dad was talking about his murdered daughter. JFC, it is really tough hearing that.

I have the most beautiful son on this earth (of course I'm biased) and I love being his dad.

I get to see him nearly every day and I've loved him since the day he was born. I even took him on my recent tour cause I didn't want to leave home without him. For any of you fathers who are too busy or too selfish to spend time with your son and be a real dad - you are a fool.

To all of you who know and cherish the love I speak of - you are real men and I salute you.

That's my boy, Tanner. He's like my kid.

He was extra waggy today, and he's got bed privileges. I think he knows...

This is the man that made me the man I am today, wish I could have made my peace with him, and let him know how much he truly meant to me before I lost him.
