RE: Karma, Real or Fake?

I personally find karma to be rather insidious. If you see a needlessly suffering person or animal, it sounds rather sadistic to say "they must've done something to deserve that". I believe it was used in Hirohito's Zen Buddhism during WW2 to justify some of the crazy shit that the Japanese soldiers did to the Chinese. I'm not a fan of any sort of cosmic justice system, and karma isn't really much better than "God will punish you after you're dead".

I think it exists up to a point as expressed in the old saying, chickens coming home to roost. For example, humans have been messed the planet up and we're now starting to feel the consequences of our own actions.

I can agree with that in the sense that simply stating "Actions have consequences, be thoughtful" is a good thing to do. But karma in its original sense...neh.

Do you mean do we believe in causality? Or the Western interpretation of what goes around comes around?

Schadenfreude springs to mind.
Like the twit that tailgates me on an icy road, and finally passes, and then a mile down the road I find him in the ditch. Hard not to smile and drive on.
I don't credit God(s) for that, it is more biting and appropo if the miscreant harms himself.

Whenever someone brings up Karma I just have to ask them why they think people who are raped, tortured or killed deserved it. Since Karma would imply that they deserved it somehow...
If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.
