I would add to SteelCurain's excellent advice that you Google Legal Aide in your area. You might actually qualify for a free lawyer. In many states Legal Aide does divorces and land lord and tenant disputes with some regularity. If not, they may be able to direct you to an affordable attorney. Should that fail, state bar associations often keep lists of young and cheap attorneys.
In the meantime demand the new owner show you either a copy of the deed or notice from the prior owner.

I remember having to pay my last month's rent at the same time I paid my first month's, and if that's the case with you I'd say the business between the two of you is over. Then begin paying the new landlord.

Update: Slumlord ended up not paying his property taxes on the house I rent even though he said he would in texts, now my pregnant girlfriend and I are being forced out in a month, the house will be auctioned, while he gets away scott-free with breaking the law. I'm not even sure if I can get a loan to get a new place and we have nowhere to go, Fuck my life.

If you have his agreement in writing, I'd say go to the cops.

Could you go to the press? A pregnant woman being evicted even though she and you pay their bills is sure to get some sympathy

An agreement? what do you mean? the lease? the texts? how would the cops help? I'm ignorant of the law in this situation.

I would hope that you could prove to the cops that your end of the bargain is being upheld, and if anyone should be punished it's the one who hasn't been paying.
By going to the press, you might be able to get someone to donate money, or convince the landowner to not kick you out.

I still need more details.
Go to the cops with what? the rent deposit slips and text messages of him saying him will pay his property taxes? What will the cops do about it? arrest him? I would hope so, because this guy is a total slumlord piece of shit, another detail is that there are no smoke alarms in this house. And when you say convince the landowner, you mean the person who buys the house at the auction? how do you go about telling the press? I'm not even sure who I contact.

Cops tend to not deal with contractual disputes or civil matters.
You need a lawyer or come up to speed on relevant landlord/tenant law yourself.
