do you think that things will be like star trek one day?

RE: do you think that things will be like star trek one day?
Its sad. There are untold amounts of resources in our solar system alone. We are never going to get there while the bulk of humanity expects god to come in 2012 or 2017 or 2035 and live life expecting death any day. The Christians and the Muslims can't seem to get their heads out of their asses long enough to treat each other with respect, much less this planet we live on.

That said I do think humanity is separating itself. The barbarians hold themselves back from progress but there is hope for those who are free to educate themselves and progress. I see it in Sweden and Germany.. and many more nations who can overcome the handicap that is religion, or at least be religious while focusing on life rather than death. The biggest question is: can humanity do it in time before we self implode? I wonder how many other past cultures of humanity have failed?

In conclusion yes it's possible and the number one hindrance to progress is religion IMO.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Space travel? Yes. Unified Earth government? Yes.

Pollyanna vision of a socialist utopia where everyone works hard for the benefit of the whole? Highly unlikely.

Everything about Star Trek is bright and cherry. Even the sets are immaculately clean. Engineers solve every problem that comes up so everything nicely resets at the end of an episode.

Here's a TV series that I think more accurately forecasts what the future will look like:

After watching Babylon 5, I concluded that Star Trek sucks.

I don't think travel over the speed of light is possible. Without that, where would we go?

I calculated once that if we could get generation or hibernation ships up to 10% of light speed, we could colonize the entire galaxy in a couple of million years. Assuming we never develop an FTL travel method, the result would be millions of species descended from humans occupying every habitable corner of the galaxy, with almost no contact with each other.

They would build up a civilization in a thousand years or so, then through overpopulation and war, they would collapse all the way back to the stone age, and they would do that over and over and over and over.

I think humanity is headed down a very similar path. Subsequent rises of civilization are going to be VERY difficult for many, many tens of thousands of years because we have done so much damage and used up so many resources in the first climb out of a primitive state. Future rises of civilization will be exponentially more difficult because all the easy energy sources like coal and oil will be used up and cannot reform during the time of inevitable collapse.

Hmm. But wouldn't the collapse also take longer because they'll be using 'greener' energy sources so it will take them much longer to damage the environment to the extent we are?

But I don't think we'll collapse to the Stone Age. Or necessarily at all. If we do, we might be set back to the 19th Century maybe. It's not that easy to forget all of our technology, I think. If we don't get a handle on things, we're in trouble, sure. But we're not going back to the Stone Age short of all-out Nuclear or Biological global warfare.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

If we collapsed back to 1800, it would be tough to rebuild technology without cheap coal, cheap oil, cheap iron ore, and many other things. Using a windmill to power a steel mill isn't going to get things going very fast.

The Enterprise is just not very aerodynamic looking. Even if it were, yeah, I don't think we'll ever develop light speed transit. Neat idea, but...well, maybe it's not.

I would be curious to see what life is like in 1,000 years.

These masks will be high fashion, not just for those with impaired immune systems.

No. Humanity won't make it that far.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

What you mean like women wearing really short dresses and black tights?

The Enterprise doesn't have to be aerodynamic, it's a space ship....it never goes into an atmosphere.
It's not immoral to eat meat, abort a fetus or love someone of the same sex...I think that about covers it
