"[College President] Lindsay’s letter sparked an immediate backlash among students and faculty at Gordon College. A petition signed by 3,500 people demanded that Lindsay remove his name from the group letter and rescind his request."

While it doesn't surprise me in the least that there are Christian shitheads, like Lindsay, willing to jump on the Hobby Lobby ruling as an excuse to discriminate against others, I find it heartening that there are a significant number of people at that college willing to call him out on it. Who knows? It may prove to be the case that the only intolerance practiced at Gordon College is against the intolerant, and the Board of Regents and alumni might decide that this is too embarrassing to let slide.

I'd love to hear Lindsay explain this fiasco at his next job interview: "But Leviticus, Romans, and Scalia!"

What christian college is so filled to bursting with students that have demonstrable potential that they can afford to turn anyone away on grounds of something they can't possibly know about someone by the contents of an entrance application?

This is the larger problem with the Hobby Lobby case. People can believe what they like but the same laws need to apply to everyone.

Allowing businesses to be exempt from certain laws on the basis of faith opens the flood gates.

Can an Islamic owned business require female employees wear a hajib?

Can a Christian-Science owned business be exempt from providing any health insurance at all, since prayer and faith are all that are needed?

Can a Scientology owned business be exempt from providing any mental health coverage, since they don't approve of psychology?

And these are fairly mainstream religions. How will the government decide what beliefs and exclusions are legitimate? More specifically, how will they do so without violating the establishment clause of the first amendment?

The can is open and the worms are going to be everywhere before long.

I think that we're about to see that the answer is no to all of the above. Which might make some wonder why the answer is yes to hobby lobby - but I doubt that many people care enough to make the connection.
