Committing atrocities is a human thing. Not "Islam" thing.
That being said, we could reduce the number of atrocities if Islam never existed. We wouldn't have, say, people killing other people to further the cultural supremacy of a religion that doesn't exist, after all. To say that other people commit crimes and such isn't a controversial statement, but to then go on and say that therefore Islam has nothing to do with certain crimes committed in the name of Islam is to go too far. You'd be wrong.

Wait, you mean to tell me that there is some violence in the world that hasn't been committed by Muslims?
All this time I thought that they were the only ones capable of atrocities.
Thanks -- I've learned something today!
And on a more serious note, there are plenty of people who commit armed robbery. I won't take my example from them, and neither should you.

It's true that most of the atrocities in history have been perpetrated by non-believers.

Do you honestly think that a bare assertion like that carries any weight at all?

Well since non-believers come from many different backgrounds, does it really matter to you that they killed more people?

That would appear to be wrong based on demographics alone Polaris. Take your atheists in one hand - and all your hindus and christians and muslims and, well....you probably get the point already. From that pov, it's kind of unsurprising that atrocities have been committed by the faithful, or in the name of the faith. There are alot of you - and have been...for quite some time.

What matters to me is factual accuracy. As Rhythm has already said, just on sheer numbers alone your claim is dubious, and when you back it up with literally nothing it just seems like a lazy potshot.

Before the 20th century, the religious had killed more people (as much as 20 million over the course of ten thousand years). The 20th century saw that more than equaled by the actions of non-believers.

You're going to have trouble quantifying that. I mean, by all means I'd love to see you do so...but....I'm pretty skeptical. Here and now, in the 20th...there are still more believers, so....gl?

Well you are right. It is hard to qualify whether the people doing the killing were believers or not since they did exist in societies that did not respect the right to worship, but you can't be certain they didn't retain their religious beliefs.
But the people who had ordered them to kill were documented as being non-believers.
