All the diligent go getters who work even when sick should be rewarded by being given honor and opportunity to prepare food for CEO and family.

Oh yeah! You just made me remember something:

One day I tried to call in sick to work because I had an awful cold. Sneezing, coughing up a lung, woozy... generally feeling horrible. My manager convinced me to come into work because we were already short-staffed (managers at restaurants are really good at guilt trips) and my fellow co-workers would be screwed if I didn't come in. My manager's family came in and the hostess sat them in my section. When he saw me walk up to their table, he told me that another waitress would be taking care of them and I would take over a table in her section.

What a fucking asshole. I didn't stay at that restaurant for much longer.
