It's very easy to make statues drip blood. You just make small cuts in the glaze and fill it up with red water, and wait while the liquid seeps out. Been done since 564AD.

I was told by my family that there would be a new world order led by the antichrist.
Everyone would receive the mark of the beast in the form of a barcode on their forehead or wrist. All the x-tians around about this time would be pulled up in the rapture.
If you were left behind and did not get the mark of the beast you would be decapitated.
I think if I'd been born into a more moderate x-tian family (not completely bat shit crazy), I would have become atheist much earlier.

Little Lunch, sorry you had to endure that. For sure that sounds bat shit crazy. When I was 10 or 11 I tried to use the "I have a headache" excuse to get out of going to the revival. This ended in complete fail. I can still remember them all having their hands on me and speaking in tongues. At my grandmothers request they were trying to heal me with the Holy Spirit. It was Horrifying, you can see some crazy shit at a Pentecostal Revival. People in trances and The Lord speaking through them. It's all expectations that they are trying to live up to that's set on them by the ring leader (the preacher). You're not a good Pentecost if you don't feel The Lord and let him speak through you. Except for a few of them that Im pretty sure are mentally ill. Still just the power of persuasion.

I know exactly what you mean! Thinking back, I probably would have been at least non-religious in my early teens.

When I was a Catholic I played Jesus a couple times in a medieval Italian play about the crucifixion we used to do in our parish in the time before easter. I think I got crucified some 12 times...

I have heard that there are groups of people that really do get themselvs crucified. They stop at the nails, though.

This is a story that parents tell children? I mean, hell, I tell my son that a variety of infractions will make his pecker fall off (and that subsequently, the "pecker-bird" will swoop down and eat it - not to be confused with the "Ronan-bird" which will carry him off whole cloth for a variety of even more severe infractions)....but decapitation...fuck!
