Starting Atheist, Agnostic, Skeptics group in East County SD
I want to start a secular group here in El Cajon (east county San Diego) for the ultimate purpose of improving public image, political activism, and a place of open conversation for secularists and inquisitors of the theistic world views.

There is already a group entitled East County Heathens, but I wan't to be more proactive.

Exposure is important, stepping on some toes are important, but in order to create more understanding, there has to be more than just park meet ups where we all just talk shit about religion and theism.

I believe in marketing, and I think the marketing strategy for atheism here in East County SD can be greatly improved.

I believe in public contact, charitable events, public service, educational seminars, debates, and THEN on top of that we can go to the park and talk shit about religion and theism.

I figure I can attempt to reserve a spot at our local library, but after that...I have no idea how to go about this, and I need your help.

I alone am only 21 years of age and far from finishing my college education to increase legitimacy. I need to find strong and intelligent people to help me do this. I don't have the slightest clue on how to go about this.

That sounds like a great idea, especially stepping on some toes! I'd like to help but it's about 8000 miles away. If you've got a website I'll sign up, though.

Aren't San Diegans a bit too chill for such a thing?
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

Aren't Christians a bit too judgmental for this sort of thing? Oh... wait.

Q, I'd love to join, but El Cajon is a little too far out from Cbad. I'll put the word out though.

What? The impression I got from San Diegans is they don't tend to care about religion/non-religion that much and like to focus on the virtues of humanity. That and they always seem laid back and just wanting to enjoy life without the need for labels.

My point is that generalizing an entire group of people is ridiculous. I'm a San Diegan, and extremely laid-back, and I do want to enjoy life, but obviously I'm pretty passionate about some things, including my secularism. There are lots of atheist and skeptic meetups here.

Oh, and we have quite a large percentage of religious people. In fact, if you drive down one of our largest freeways, the I5, you'll see a 72,000 sq ft LDS temple, one of the largest in the world.

That basically sums up at at least 40% of the posts on this website.

I was not aware of any atheist or skeptic groups in San Diego County (what's Carlsbad known for? not a city I know a lot about) as I never got the impression that San Diego took religion much too seriously other than an occasional Sunday affair.

Uhhhh... are you a San Diegan? Never mind; don't answer that. I know you're not.

Why WOULD you be aware of any of that? Are you the world's expert on gatherings around the world? No. You're not.

And here are the statistics:
