Even if he isn't guilty of anything, and I personally think he is, I also think that any political career he might have had has just gotten a huge, steaming dump taken on it.

As if his national political career could have gotten worse?

The one regret I have is that we won't be treated to the entertainment and slapstick comedy of a Perry presidential campaign in 2016.

I'm willing to bet you would've heard more than a few exclamations of "DAMN!" if you'd been sitting in The Daily Show's script writing office when the news broke.

I'll be very surprised if he isn't on the Republican clown car next around. I'm not sure any political logic holds up anymore. He might get lots of sympathy as an asshole's martyr.

I don't think so, myself. He's too associated with the religious right, which arouses suspicion in the East Coast Republicans, and he's also got vulnerabilities on the illegal immigration issue: the Republicans are trying to woo Hispanics, but Perry has once more called out the National Guard to march on the border.

If Perry is on the ticket, the better for reasonable Americans: just like Palin, he will push centrists like me to another candidate.
