And as the fundamentalists are fond of pointing out, there are many millions of Christians in China. But the graphics are about how atheists are treated.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
I bet Texas would love to join that list.
I'm skeptical of this map - what are its sources and does it claim to be comprehensive?
How did India not make it to the map? We have anti-blasphemy laws here (an obscure and archaic residue of colonial era common law) which can and have been used to curb free speech. It doesn't happen very often, but it happens. Most recently, Sanal Edamaruku, an Indian Rationalist, was charged under those laws upon a complaint from Bombay's Catholic branch when he showed that the water dripping from the feet of a Jesus statue (locally regarded as miracle and people getting in line to collect the 'holy' water) was actually sewage water. He has since fled to Finland. (September 18, 2014 at 12:34 pm)genkaus Wrote: I'm skeptical of this map - what are its sources and does it claim to be comprehensive? As do I, currently. The map is complete and utter nonsense. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???" There's a law on the books that allows for up to one year imprisonment for publishing blasphemous libel, but it is not enforced. In fact, the last time a case was tried was in the 1920s, with no conviction. So, it's ridiculous that NZ was included. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blasphemy_l...ew_Zealand |
