jesus wasn't really a man

RE: jesus wasn't really a man
To me, this is a non-issue. There are so many absurdities and fantastical elements in Christianity that one might as well discuss how Santa Claus gets all those presents under the trees every Christmas or how the Tooth Fairy gets money under a kid's pillow. I grew out of my belief in these things a long time ago (when I was 5 I wondered how Santa Claus got to our house since we didn't have a chimney - that was probably my first foray into skepticism). People are still reporting Elvis sightings at Burger King, and he died almost 40 years ago. Just think what 2000 years of misinformation can do.

Christians debate on how Enoch got whisked up to "heaven" without dying, or how Moses parted the Red Sea. Some people believe that Moses was talking to an alien up on Mount Sinai after coming down with his radiation burns after supposedly talking to god, and that his staff was an alien device with supernatural powers.

Me - I'm still wondering how Yoda got Luke's X-Wing out of the swamp....

Quote:Fore there are more period manuscripts that Speak to Jesus Christ than any other figure in that period of History.

Drippy you are still the biggest fucking idiot on these boards. Too bad, G-C left. You two could have gone for the heavyweight title of ignorance.

I've been waiting for you to trot out this particular canard so I could ambush you with reality. Patience is always rewarded! Big Grin

Quote:A greater gaffe in defense of Jesus' historicity is to make claims that are conspicuously opposite the truth of the matter, as when E.P.
Sanders boasts that 'the sources for Jesus are better ... than those that
deal with Alexander [the Great]'. A more suicidal remark for his case
could hardly be imagined. Unlike Jesus, we have over half a dozen
relatively objective historians discussing the history of Alexander the Great (most notably Diodorus, Dionysius, Rufus, Trogus, Plutarch and
more). These are not romances or propagandists, least of all fanatical
worshipers, or anyone concerned about dogma, but disinterested historical writers employing some of the recognized skills of critical analysis of their day on a wide body of sources they had available that
we do not. Which doesn't mean we trust everything they say, but we still cannot name even one such person for Jesus, and 'none' is not 'more' than half a dozen.

Like, seriously, take a look at Carrier's sources in the notes of his book and compare them to the sources that Drich is using. It takes me aback every time when they don't see the difference in source quality there.

They don't like to read books that are complicated.... or which tell them things they don't want to hear.

That's why theists are idiots.

You...er..Your friend could try being breatharian. To my knowledge, nothing is less girthy than a skeleton. Fair warning, like most religions, you won't reap the benefits until after death.
