When I die I will go to oblivion. And it will be exactly the way I was before I was born. It didn't hurt then because I wasn't. And it won't hurt after I'm dead because I won't be. ---- Sorry to say Drich, because I know you're putting in a lot of work down here on earth, but you too are headed for oblivion. But don't worry, you won't be around to be chagrined.

It would mean that one's fragile mind/consciencenous would be consumed by hell fire, and what made them unique indivisuals would be consumed and burned up, as consciencenous is apart of the gift of creation. Hell is a pit, a void, the emptiness in which creation is not apart. For satan and his inner circle (those who hate God) I have a feeling their hate will sustain them a very very long time. Even though they endure mind paralyzing torment.
Doesn't sound like much of a hell to me, to be honest. There isn't much to fear in 'mind paralyzing torment'... it's just a screeching state of endless terror.
'Mind-shattering torment', on the other hand... that I would be concerned about. Though... perhaps no more concerned than I already am.
Do you believe I would constitute the 'spiritually benign'? I have an awful lot of spirituality, and I would not consider myself either strictly malevolent or benevolent... or is it more to do with believing in or otherwise employing some exactistic phrasing/mechanism ie a spell to resist the story's close or blood of the lamb slathered o'er the doorframe?
In truth mind shattering torment is a mercy. That was what I was describing for the benign. Once your mind is consumed, then it really does not matter what happens to the rest. We are all but a thin thread of conscientiousness. Once that thread breaks all that is left is an empty primal shell that will also be consumed.
The paralyzingly fear, is what can potentially last eternally.
As far as whether you will be consumed or linger around to be burned for eternity.. It's my hope you and I can have tea together with the mad hatter and Cheshire cat (or the heavenly equivalent) on the otherside of eternity together some day. That goes for almost everyone else's here. But, I know not everyone wants what I want for them. So if you must dive head long into the pit, I personally don't see you as one who hates God on the level of satan. Therefore you will be consumed...
Idk know if you read my hell thread or not, but once I admitted God's sentence was just I felt that thin thread of consciencousness begin to be consumed by the 'hell fire.' It was anger and hatred toward God that saw me tormented through the gates of Hell. I believe being consumed by the hell fire is the second death Christ speaks of. Again this is His final mercy.. Unless you are one to burn with hatred.
Ask God to show you what He showed me, the way He showed me.. (You want a return ticket home) just make sure you have plastic sheets first... You don't want to 'sweat' through your sheets/sweat the bed like I did.

Becareful what you wish for. If your wishing for anything other than heaven wish for what Jen-a has faith in.

As I said many times before, and I will say it again (because it bares repeating) fear of death (being gone forever and ever) is what pretty much every "serious" religion feeds on. Without promise of life everlasting religion would be just another fairy tale.
But of course, you yourself most likely do not fear it (and if you still do it's probably less then you used to) because you convinced yourself that you are most certainly escaping death.
Why fear it ?
Never really understood that ...

Odd. In my experience, mind-shattering torment really sticks with a person. ![Thinking Thinking](https://atheistforums.org/images/smilies/thinking.gif) It's easy to eventually "bore" a mind with 'paralyzing fear'... better approach would be to combine the two, really.
Now... that's got finger-biting lunacy written all over it.

Hmm, the Hatter owes me money he doesn't have. He may not be wanting to be seeing me again. What can I say? Sipping tea is enough to drive someone mad.
I rather prefer the 'satan' who loved God too much and was cast down... but I understand that it's modern fiction. Darn good, though... breeds that sympathy for the devil like no other.

I did not, and I probably won't... there's a lot to trawl through any time someone makes mention of anything religious here. Takes nearly as much energy as people passionately defending some facet of philosophy what they want to believe they understand... it's a tremendously boring subject, thank you for the summary
In the same vein as wrath, I burn as bright as a supermassive star of pride. Perhaps I am not destined for the eternal fire... but ego is hard to swallow.

I don't want a return ticket, I've suffered enough in the one life I was already cursed with, and there is plenty of suffering yet to be had.
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

No, because:
1) It's no different from the status quo.
If hell is separation from God without hope of reconciliation, then it isn't any different from where I am now. And where I am now is not hellish.
2) It could be no worse than heaven.
There isn't any difference between spending eternity in either heaven or hell. Eternity anywhere would be eternally boring. Rational, sane hope for better requires some indication that better could exist. In this case, something non-boring to do in infinite repetition.
3) It is an imaginary place.
If you can't tell me where I went last night between midnight and the time I woke this morning, I dismiss any claim you make of what happens after death. I believe the iconic Christian hell of fire and brimstone exists only in the imagination, a construct to frighten the gullible into subservience.
I can't go someplace that doesn't exist. 'Tis a silly place.
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?

In order to hate God you must believe that he exists.
But I thought that belief in God/Jesus was enough to get you into heaven?

Giving 10% of everything you have to the church helps.
I think you can still buy indulgences if you know where to shop.

Going to Hell or not - the Decision
Simply take the blue pill
Or the red pill
For those who don't like these options, there is the lesser-known
green pill
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
