An eternity in a Prison is worthless.
An eternity in a torture chamber inside a xtian church is certainly not of any value as well

The idea that one would be "happy"spending an eternity stroking the ego of a maniacal "god" - might be worth something for the "god" but is worthless to lesser folks.

Actually - the "idea" if a life after death - is not a clearly defined one in any of the Xtain religions. "Eternal rest grant unto him O lord - and let perpetual light shine upon him - may he rest in perpetual peace - Amen" does not sound to me like any after life coming - but is said at most xtian burials.

But then - the bible shows its problems when it describes the death of the mythical christ - that he DESCENDED into hell before rising. But - at the time of the supposed death - all of them were Jewish - and they don't believe in a hell.

One of the main problems with religion is that they contradict themselves all the time - and it is OBVIOUS - and they still do not admit it. IF a person is only responsible for their own actions (Free will implies they have to be actions - not something that NEVER happened but would have) - then the whole basis for needing to be saved DOES NOT EXIST - since the "sin" of "eve" never actually happened - we now KNOW that was a fairy tale.

Who says we only only live to get to heaven? We live to do God's will. I guess that it was God's will that I've been to Disneyland probably ten times. Gotta get to Disney World someday. I agree with the OP that if people live the way he says they do, it's pretty bad.

again with that mindset you really have no real reason to care for your own life because getting to god faster is your goal is it not?

How can one live to do God's will if both God and Its will are undefined? If God is an infinitely powerful and knowledgeable being, then all actions and events are within Its will since It created the initial conditions from which all changes necessarily follow. To say something occurred outside of Its will is to suggest that God is not the sole author of creation, that there are a plurality of (human) wills that can actually rule over It.

Excellent point Pickup.

To add, the Christian god tells us we are inherently and unavoidably sinful. We can't help it. We can't change. It is only by undeserved grace that we are saved.

Since "sin" is defined as NOT doing Yahweh's will, then this means any mission by a Christian to do his will is doomed to failure.

No. My goal is to do God's will. I don't know how long he wants me to hang around.

Saying that we're sinful doesn't mean that everything we do is sin. In fact if we live in the Spirit, we can be successful at avoiding much sin. Also, in the bible God often used sinful people to accomplish his will. Take Samson for example.

I seem to remember a passage about how all our best deeds are as filthy rags.

Seems like everything we do to me. If even at our best we fall short, what other conclusion can you draw?

Once we have the Holy Spirit we are empowered to avoid sin if we walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16New Living Translation (NLT)
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
