Greetings!
October 31, 2014 at 6:22 am
Hello, I am Boes.
I will start off saying I am quite bad at talking about myself, but I think it's nice to introduce myself a bit.
I live in the Netherlands, where most people are non-religious. Although both officially Christian my parents are pretty much atheists. They did not teach me anything about the Christian faith, although my grandparents did. I considered myself Christian until I read a junior version of the bible around the age of seven, then I became an atheist as I simply did not buy it. Sometimes I do question if there is some supernatural power out there because of unlikely things happening in my life, but I realize that if you're going to spend as much time as I do on this planet unlikely things will happen often.
I love learning, and that is what I do all day. I learn about everything that seems important to me, from education to the first world war to climate change. There is so much fascinating knowledge and so many fascinating ideas out there, it is really astonishing. I love to debate and discuss, as nothing beats a meaningful conversation.
One of the most inspiring people to me was my grandfather, a pastor who traveled all around the world to speak to prisoners. Some others are Nelson Mandela, Matt Dillahunty, Neal Barnard, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Martin Luther King, Al Gore, Ken Robinson, Dan Pink, Simon Sinek, Stephen Hawking and some other wonderful people.
Looking forward to some nice discussions!

Hi Boes. Welcome to the forum
Few other Dutch members here so you'll probably meet them before long You've got a long list of very good inspirational people there, too, especially your grandfather.
Hope you stick around.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK
"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House
“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom
