What is the Real Purpose of an Atheist Forum?

RE: What is the Real Purpose of an Atheist Forum?
I think someone's head just exploded after reading that comment.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

I was not aware there was an athiest leader, but the way your inquiry was stated suggests you wish to become such a leader.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

I see it that we as atheists simply like to hang around together without the religious bullshit. However, we ALSO like to invite in the bullshit to see if theists have got any arguments that aren't laughable - or if not, we enjoy the laughter.

That's one way of, me at least, interpreting it anyway.

We stand against:

Indoctrinating children too young to think for themselves
Taking away the rights of gays and treating them like second class citizens
Bullshit religious theories being taught in schools
Taking away a womans right to chose to have an abortion

ETC...

If there were no Atheist or Secular organisations standing up for people who are mistreated or decisions on entirely religious grounds then nobody would do it.

When I hear of people doing that, sorry but it reminds me of hate groups. As a minority in this country I am all too familiar with that. People claim they're just exercising their freedom of speech or that they are just being proud of their skin color but that's just the surface. Usually, they exist to combat a group they oppose and not because they really want to make the world a better place.

I mean, members of an auto club is talking about autos and not about the people who don't care very much for autos.
I can't speak for all atheists but the "anti-religion" movement isn't a personal attack on religious people. It's an attack on religious organizations misleading people and influencing government policy. The autoclub is a bad analogy.

Quote:When I said everything should be put on the table, I meant that everybody should be well-informed before making decisions. Otherwise, people are believe stereotypes and that just perpetuates the wedge that already exists.
About religion? People should be taught every religion in the history of man and be expected to make a well-informed decision and pick one to have faith in? Or would we limit it to only popular religions, or modern religions?

Quote:As far as civil liberty, when it comes to abortions I don't think it should be a quick fix though, which I fear some women are using it just as such. We can say it's her body but the abortion doesn't solve her problems. I know of some who had the procedure done and they're just psychologically messed up afterwards.
So your conclusion is somehow to criminalize women for seeking abortions? That will solve her problems?

Quote:And somehow I think homosexual marriages is more a problem with health insurance companies than it is with religious groups. The Christians are probably the least of the gay people's worries. It's the health insurance companies!

Out of curiosity, does dealing with the Westboro Baptist Insurance Co. cover acts of God? In this case, acts of God hating something? Like America?
