My naive questions

I have a question for christians, but it`s valid for every religious person.

Let`s assume you become convinced there has to be a God who watches over everything you do. Before you choose your faith, wouldn`t it be reasonable to research every single belief in the world before choosing?
No, it wouldn't be reasonable at all. There are far too many. There's no way to research every single belief in the world.

So how do you surmount the issue?

I'll probably get another SG this spring, they're my favorite Gibbys any more.

Don't need to, when God speaks to you, you know you've come to the true God. No other God has ever reached out to me.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Weird, I hear the EXACT SAME THING from Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, Etruscan Penis Worshippers, Pastafarians, Methodists, Seventh Day Adventists, and a whole heap more.

What makes YOUR testimony special ???

Maybe they haven't got your phone number. You're sure, you have provided them with all your details?

Look at the religions that you reasonably can and make a choice.

By analogy, there could be a better spouse for you than the person you're engaged to. You don't need to date every single eligible potential mate in order to make a decision. By that logic you'd never get married.

You don't need to research every single career in the world in order to select one. By that logic you'd never have a career.

There are many choices we make on incomplete information, and as noted they can be decisions which are vital to our happiness. At some point, you just pull the trigger and commit.

True but by not looking at all the kooky claims you won't know what kooky claim is the one "truth".

RE: My naive questions
That would be a valid analogy Alpha, but none of the situations you proposed (spouse, career) have any bearing on our immortal soul or the absolute nature of the universe, whereas religion does.

And what of the divorce rate?

And what of folks who study one thing at school, and decide they hate the career only after entering the workforce?

And that's a great point, so long as the possibility of error is acknowledged. Without that, it's a bit disingenuous -- not that you're engaging in that, that's not my point.
