You mean like giving amnesty to illegal aliens?

Like St. Reagan did?

Reagan's deferral of some deportations is addressed in the article I linked in the OP.

Quote:Every president since Dwight D. Eisenhower has deferred some deportations. President Reagan deferred deportations for about 100,000 families of foreign nationals in 1987 under his reading of the congressionally authorized 1986 amnesty law, and President George H.W. Bush did so in 1990 for about 350,000 foreign nationals under his reading of the same law. Each of these was based on a principled public presidential reading of the words and purposes of a federal statute. Obama does not purport to read and interpret the current immigration law; rather, he effectively rewrites it.

Here is the link again

I haven't read the statute under which Reagan and Bush deferred deportation but I assume it contains a set of standards by which a president is allowed to defer deportations. If Obama re-writes this standard then he is going above and beyond what Reagan and Bush did. He is effectively tossing out a law he doesn't like and replacing with an executive order that he does like.

We won't know until we see the executive order.

Not even close to being true.

Source.

Yeah...if you go back to the 1880's when there wasn't so much of an Executive Branch to order around.

Being elected president makes him president. America doesn't have a king. He isn't doing anything that can't be overridden by congress or the next president.

If Obama re-writes the laws he is effectively a king. It doesn't matter what congress would pass...he'd re-write the law with an executive order.

Now Obama may have it in his power to defer the prosecution and deportation of 5 million illegal immigrants. He certainly does not have the power to issue an executive order making those illegal immigrants legal. The law is pretty clear, it is illegal to hire illegal immigrants. If Obama makes it legal to hire illegal immigrants he is definitely over stepping his bounds and effectively re-writing laws.

But when Dubya did it, Woodie, you sat there with your own dick up your ass and said nothing.

Fuck you, you hyporite.

Since neither you nor FOX seems to know what an Executive Order is, here. Try, for once in your fucking wasted life, try to learn something so you don't always seem like such an ignorant shit.

Quote: Executive Orders have been used by every chief executive since the time of George Washington. Most of these directives were unpublished and were only seen by the agencies involved. In the early 1900s, the State Department began numbering them; there are now over 13,000 numbered orders. Orders were retroactively numbered going back to 1862 when President Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus and issued the Emancipation Proclamation by Executive Order. There are also many other Executive Orders that have not been numbered because they have been lost due to bad record-keeping. Such is not the problem today. All new Executive Orders are easily accessible (see below).

I already showed that your argument is idiotic. Its the nature of the executive order that is germane to the question of whether a president is over stepping his bounds not the number or the mere fact that one has been issued.

Okay...Just got done watching Obama's speech and I did not note anything that I would consider being a gross overstepping of presidential bounds. That of course might change after we actually see his executive orders.

Right not I am leaning that Obama is not a king....at least when it comes to immigration.

Woodie, the idea that a fucking flamng asswipe like you could show anything is laughable. Obama just stuck his dick up your asses tonight.

Go ahead, assholes. Spend the next two years cozying up to your racist, ignorant base and pissing off the growing Latino and Asian community and the independents who decide elections. See where that gets you in 2016.

Poor Woodie. You've been outsmarted!

Negative Minimalist,

I have always maintained we would need to see the executive orders in order to judge them.....and we still do. It could be that Obama's speech purposely left out certain details of his executive orders. Right now all I have to judge is his speech and my initial feeling about it is that I didn't hear anything which lead me to believe Obama intends to overstep his bounds. The could change with a more detailed analysis.

You are and probably always will be, full of shit, Woodie.

Quote:Read Ronald Reagan’s executive order on immigration the GOP won’t talk about

Quote:Illegal immigrants in considerable numbers have become productive members of our society and are a basic part of our work force. Those who have established equities in the United States should be recognized and accorded legal status. At the same time, in so doing, we must not encourage illegal immigration.
