If I miss someone I DEFINITELY tell them you miss them, I've told girls I miss how they smell I miss how they feel I miss how they sound.
But I didn't put a status on a social media program broadcast to everyone saying "I miss how you feel, how you smell, how you sound". I just simply txt that one individual person a message to their phone or called them on the phone. No one else saw it or had to look at it and wonder who I was talking about.
Also these messages aren't forthright from the person to another person, they are usually made up by someone online, typed up in a nice font with some fancy graphics behind the font, put on a website where people download these images then the images are used as profile photos on things like whatsapp, probably on facebook even though I don't have facebook I imagine they get used on there even more.
You've never made a public gesture to a woman you've loved? Never expressed public appreciation for a friend?
Different strokes, I suppose.
I probably have just not in a sickeningly overly sentimental way and while using a quote typed up by someone else that for some reason has gone slightly viral on the internet, probably found on google images or something.
But yes I am usually more of a forthright person myself, If I miss someone I tell them, if I apreciatte something I'll tell someone on the phone. I tend to avoid telling 100 other people who don't care and who don't even know the person I'm talking about.

@paulopablo
To me the surrounding facts and the mode of communication make it annoying, corny, cheap, whereas the message itself, if it were authentic, is meh, ok, at worst.

This is exactly right.
Rather than this thread being about what girls and guys do different it's just more about sexual attraction and how personally I love that a girl exhibits what is stereotyped as girlish behavior but it can also make my blood fucking boil.
I'll give an example just to try and make it clearer but it's sexual and this isn't area 69 so I'll tell the story in the form of a metaphor about baking cakes.
When me and my ex would bake a cake my ingredients would always be on top but one day we decided to see how it was with her ingredients ontop of my cake.
She would be just about to put the ingredients on my cake but each time she would stop and hesitate and say "Actually I'm not sure about this, we don't have to do this, are you sure about this" and so on, continually.
Up the the point where I got so annoyed I just said "Katie, put your fucking ingredients on my cake now."
And this wasn't role playing annoyed, or role playing taking control, I had just got to the point where I was genuinely infuriated at her indecisiveness and hesitation, BUT at the same time I think she did that just to bring out the infuriated side of me, it got her excited, her getting excited got me excited, in the end we baked a really really good cake. Which I loved.
So that is basically what I mean when I say I hate (what is stereotypically defined as) girlish behavior, but I also love it.
It kind of happens constantly, I've been out with girls who have often blatantly refused to even suggest places we should go and said it's up to the man to decide all these things.
The weirdest one was when I was in work and a girl asked me what should she have to drink out of the vending machine, I told her, (quick as a flash I just said tango, which is a drinks brand in the UK which I was craving at that point myself) she pushed the tango button instantly after I said it then said "Oh I didn't want that".
A part of me is thinking oh my god, I CANNOT comprehend what the fuck is going on in your mind, but then another part of me is thinking my god you're so girlish, indecisive, submissive and I just want to be in you.
It's difficult for me to talk about this without tripping over a thousand politically correct trap wires of stereotyping men and women and gender and all of this but whatever.

This sounds like you have an issue with dominance...like you haven't reconciled it in yourself.

Different people have different styles. I don't go in for big gestures myself, normally, but when the occasion merits, it is useful. When someone does me a big 'do, it's only fair that I pipe up and let others know that they're good folk, right?
Accolades cost me very little. It doesn't hurt me one bit to praise a person, when it's merited. And doing so publicly gives the person a little boost in itself.

I not only have the illusion of free will, I have the illusion of free choice within that illusion. I'm given "options" by my wife, but only one of them is an acceptable answer.

Yeah.... yeah...
and there's room for character development, too: over the years you get better and better at guessing which one that is.

There is another way in which my role is reduced. I will often put forward a solution to a problem, and will be shouted down as a complete idiot. Then in a few days, my wife puts forward the exact same solution as if it was her idea.
