"Christ"mas and the atheist
December 16, 2014 at 5:28 pm
Today on Face book I saw a thread that was bashing non believers. It said non believers should not participate in Christmas, get Christmas day off or get holiday pay for that day since the holiday is for Christ.
Now, I'm new to my beliefs. I used to be a Christian but from everything I have read noone truly knows WHEN christ was supposedly born AND Christmas dates back further than Christ does as an actual Pagan tradition.
It actually has nothing to do with Christ or Christianity.
That's correct isn't it??
It's all fairy tales and unicorns. No one wants to really research anything with an open mind.

Pretty much.
And I have no doubt that many of the "Christmas is for Christ!" people were knocking others over during Black Friday for whatever material trinket they just had to have....

Hi,
Not only is it unknown when the guy was born, it is also less than certain whether any individual you would recognize as the jesus of nazareth ever lived. The rough time of the celebration is taken from preexisting solstice traditions, surely.

You are correct.
Christmas and all Christmas traditions, from the tree to the presents, has a pagan origin.
Most historians agree that if Jesus was real he wouldn't have been born in the middle of the Middle East Winter.

There are a good number of deities born on December 25th that predate Christianity by thousands of years. It's as much the day for the sun as it is these deities, if not more since we know it exists. It stops its decline for 3 days and begins to rise again on the 25th and works its mysteries until Spring where it could be said it fully resurrects. Cough cough. ..Easter.

Indeed. And easter? All those bunnies and eggs? Nothing like a good fertility festival.

Oh it's a holiday for the celebration of Jesus' birth alright. That the date and trappings are pagan is beside the point. No religious group gets to decide how or if others celebrate or don't celebrate a holiday even if that holiday is very special to the religious group.
