The Purity Movement
#31
RE: The Purity Movement
Puritan values "worked" for puritans because they married as children.

"Is hair growing in strange places and do you get a funny feeling when you look at Ms. Mary Jane Rottencrotch? Ho-ho my boy, off to marriage with you!"

There were pimping their children at the ripe old age of twelve for a couple of goats and enough grain to last the winter. Never forget that these were their "values".
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

We talked about everything. Boys and sex, drugs and what they did both good and bad and alcohol both good and bad. When they went out with a boy, I had to meet them and talk to them. Not to intimidate them, but I wanted to know who my daughter was choosing to hang out with. Every single boy for both of them were very nice people. I am not stupid though, they were teenage boys and I am sure that things went on that I would rather not think about. But that is why we had the discussion about safe sex prior to them dating. I did not encourage them to be indiscriminate but I wanted them to be protected.

Yes, my son went through the same discussion. The only difference was I made sure he understood, a girl should be respected and treated as such.

So far I have 3 well adjusted kids. I am certain they will continue to make wise decisions.

This is great, teaching sex and the responsibilities that go along with it are important and the schools need to stay out of such things and the parents need to step up and raise their children. I congratulate you on a experience well done.

There is more than one thing about not having sex that's a benefit to marriage, the obvious doesn't need stated.
However the not so obvious is quite important, comparing ones wife or husband to a former partner, not vocally, in one's thoughts and anyone who has had sex before marriage has done this, you can say you haven't but that wouldn't be true would it. Emotions have a way of over riding good senses. Enough of this kind of thing can and will destroy a marriage.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

GC, I was not exactly pure when I met my husband and I promise I don't compare him to other men and I honestly don't believe that he compares me to anyone else either. Of course, if there is something that we want sexually, we discuss it so there really isn't much reason for comparisons.

I had a cousin who broke up with her husband because she felt she married too young and he was the only man she ever dated. The grass is greener on the other side syndrome happens in virgins as well as nonvirgins.

Um no, marriage is an artificial construct created by humans, it was around long before the monotheism of Abraham. Many forms of mammal life pair up. We would not evolve as a species if we did not form family units.

In antiquity even in polytheism prior to monotheism it was done as a way to link families together as a way of barter.

Our species is in no danger of going extinct because concepts of bonding as social norms change over time.

It will destroy as it should, antiquated social norms that are really nothing more than human invented constructs designed to create power and control.

I think you need to understand no one is advocating young kids not old enough to understand just do something to feel good. If anything religion is what does that and is why far too many end up in bad relationships because they are not prepared and simply do it because that is what society sells them.

What I advocate is education, not rituals. Some boys and girls get blindly taught this is the only way to prove yourself and get married for emotional reasons and even when they don't understand that they didn't want kids in the first place.

I can tell you how full of hormones I was, and bought into the utopia crap about "love" and I was too emotionally immature to understand I didn't know a damned thing. On top of that I never really wanted kids at all, but thought I did because that is what society pushed on me. I was married once and look back at it now and it would have made my x's wife harder and my life harder.

I think the best thing to do with kids is to tell them no one has the right to manipulate you, or emotionally blackmail you into sex. And teach them how their body's work, and let them know the risks of what could happen if they do.

But the way religion sells sex and marriage is out of Disney movie and lacks the pragmatism to make it work. It teaches far too many people that they are a failure if they don't stay with someone forever. That leads to bitter divorces and custody battles and sometimes violence.

Should have been the first indication that she lived somewhere other than reality.

Some months ago I sent the boys at Cognitive Dissonance a link to a photographer's page for purity balls/ceremonies in which the daughters posed with their fathers. I don't know how the photographer(s) managed to take those photos, because many of them were so fucking creepy pedo incestuous-looking that I felt dirty just looking at them in the journalistic capacity in which they were presented. I don't know who posed the people, or how the photographers accepted money to do the job. I wish I still had the link.

Is this it? If I remember correctly, the fathers and daughters chose their own poses

I should have taken this as a warning, but clicked anyway. Disturbing, particularly the one in which neither girl appears to be ten yet.

Seriously, as an amateur photographer, it's making me gag that anyone would take those photos and be okay enough to hit the shutter button.
