Oh, you missed that one, MrA. A hodgepodge of might-makes-right, coupled with a massive equivocation of biblical slavery with low-paying foreign jobs, and a heaping helping of obtuseness.

Aren't you sad you missed it?

The 'safe words' here would be akin to the terrorist info we would be looking for in a real situation. If a 'safe word' was given with in a minute how much longer do you think a terrorist could hold out?

... or the terrorist could tell you that the attack will be coming in May in New York, when in fact it's coming in March in Houston, meaning that your resources and dispositions can be manipulated in order to be out of place and thus less effective. Or the terrorists could concoct two or three false plans with a basic story already argeed-upon, so that even separate interrogations would confirm each other. Indeed, if I were planning a massive attack, I would probably put a disinformation campaign into place in order to improve my chances of success. I don't imagine that people willing to kill themselves for the sake of a heavenly afterlife would shrink at the thought of submitting to torture.

... or the terrorist could simply list off a few high-value targets and state that he knows there's planning going on, and keep himself alive by doling out dribs and drabs of information.

I bet if we decided to use crucifixion as our method of choice, you'd be screaming to high heaven about how wrong torture is.

Drich,
I see you've blown off my advice of avoiding discussions of morality.

You're talking out of your ass and it starts to smell. Newsflash, not even the CIA, not even Fox News claim any longer that the so called EIT yielded any results. Why don't you take the time to actually looking it up before displaying your ignorance on the matter. Took me all but five minutes to come up with a Fox News report of all the gazillon sources available. Thought I post that, since they're probably more to your liking than the actual senate report.

Or keep your head burried deeply in Brian Fisher's anus for all I care.

Because with out their jobs they would literally starve trying to live in the societal model we currently live in.

Except, when southerners were forced to free their slaves after they started a war out of fear of having to free their slaves, those former slaves survived, even with the racists of the south going out of their way to make their lives miserable and marginal, they survived.

You can't argue that the "current societal model" will harm former slaves. That argument is fundamentally wrong because the abolition of slavery, by itself, radically transforms the "current societal model".

Your argument is the same used by people who justify the idea of "job creators" paying people as little as they can possibly get away with. Without these jobs that don't pay enough to live on, you won't have anything at all. Whether or not you intend to sound like you approve of and encourage the practice of slavery, defending the practice is promotion of the practice.

"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Dodgy or the obvious train wreck Dirch is going to be like HM.
my advice - slow down Dirch do not twist any words or meaning to get your own say. the forum police do not like it and anyone with common sense can see through to your argument and trickery. Trust me i kinda don't want to see you get banned but you might if you keep it up.

(December 23, 2014 at 12:40 am)Drich Wrote: The problem? Morality is simply the lessor of two evils. Even if the lessor of two evils can be determined IT IS STILL EVIL! Therefore not righteous. (Which is the only standard God looks for in us.) Since we can not produce righteousness, we must seek it from another source. Thankfully Christ is that other source. When we accept His atonement, we trade our sin for His righteousness. So when God looks at us He see not our sin as it was nailed to the cross, but the righteousness of Christ.

Ah being moral won't do but being righteous will? Please define morality and righteousness.

Because from here it looks like you've defined and accepted by god as righteous and everything else as evil. Even if there were a god to do the accepting, that sounds like a pretty shitty set of definitions on god's part.

(December 23, 2014 at 9:11 am)Drich Wrote: What you guys fail to understand through the thin veil of morality you hide behind. It is not that I am pretending to say Those who seek redemption are better in any way. As so many of you are so quick to point out, we understand we are often times worse than those who hide behind vain righteousness that is spawned from with in yourselves or your culture. That is why we often are made to seek redemption.

It is because we can not pretend to be all high and mighty, or we understand that being "good Moral people" is the same as being the lessor of two evils (in the we are still evil) and as such still not worthy of eternal life. So that mean all the posts and posters who pointed out that I am less "moral" than you hold yourselves to are I deed correct. I don't pretend to hold myself to the standards of this generation's popular culture. As such I know I need to find attonement and redemption for my evil, and not just hide it by comparing it to another person's 'more' evil ways.

What are examples of over sensitivity?
The reaction to the advanced interrogation techniques. Why isn't this torture? Again torture is not legal, these techniques were deemed legal. That's it. our actions were in direct response to the threat our leaders thought we were under. They at the time had to weigh and sift though all the info presented and plot a course that lead us to a point in time where we now have the luxury to look back in self righteous judgement. Looking back we have the luxury of knowing that the events are always set in stone, that it is why it is so easy to almost always make a better desision (there are no variables any more)

however looking forward everything is a variable, and the best way to make a desision is with as much information as possible. Especially When that desision could mean the lives of 10's of million of people on both sides of a conflict, and when a hand full of bad men control the destiny of all those lives, I have no issue of turning those people inside out if it meant lives would be saved.

The other example of over sensitivity was to the discussion of slavery we just had. This is where common sense has failed most of you. In that we currently live in the backs of slaves and your over sensitivity to that word has kept you from acknowledging your personal role in the employment of slaves to provide you with the western life style you currently enjoy. This over sensitivity/loss of common sense has also kept you from acknoweledging that for those who are slaves need their slavery to survive. Because with out their jobs they would literally starve trying to live in the societal model we currently live in.

I can think of a few more but I think the pot is stirred well enough.
