Quote:Tough call on the acrobatic catch by Bryant in the Dallas/GB game. I understand the rule, but my impression is that he had secured the ball and was down by contact when the ground jarred it loose.

At the behest of a friend who is a Dallas fan I looked at the replay - since she knows I can't stand football and am thus an impartial observer.

The guy caught the ball, took two more steps and then dove for the end zone. The ball touched the ground at about the half-yard line and he rolled into the end zone briefly losing control after he was down by contact.
Even when he bobbled the ball it never touched the ground. He was not falling to make the catch.

A horrible call.

Somebody had a big bet on that game.

He never establishes possession, even after he hit the ground.

If he just clutched the ball and went to the ground, instead of trying to reach for the goal line while wearing a defender and before having the ball securely in his possession, we wouldn't be talking about this today.

This is why every football team's motto should be be "score enough points so questionable calls don't matter".

He caught it at the five, took two steps and dove to the one.

For what it's worth, I think a catch should be a catch and the concept of 'establishing control of the ball' is unnecessarily strict as far as requirements go. But, it is what it is.

And, the Cowboys benefited from a bad call against the Lions, so I don't particularly feel sorry for them.

I have to wonder if Peyton Manning had aggravated his quad injury or was suffering some other ailment, he looked terrible in that game against the Colts. Indy/NE could be another barn-burner. I will probably be on the road back to NYC that day so I might only get to catch the highlights... in which case it better be a 56-3 final.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I've never been so emotional during a game... ever. I'm a Colts fan because I followed Peyton Manning from Tennessee. I literally cried a few times during the game yesterday. It felt so right that the Colts were winning, but so utterly wrong to root against Peyton during the playoffs.

I read an interview with the Colt's head coach - he said that their defensive game plan was basically ripped off from the Seahawks' D from the last Super Bowl. For what it's worth, Peyton looked like shit that day too, but frankly, I don't think the Colts' defense is nearly good enough to be an explanation by itself.

Yeah Colts/Patriots is going to be a shootout. Andrew Luck better bring his A game - Indy's rushing game looked pretty weak to me.

I know I'm kicking Peyton while he's down, but I think he looked terrible because it was a playoff game.
