Why so many "anti-feminists" in the atheist community?
RE: Why so many "anti-feminists" in the atheist community?
Why does everybody have a different name? is there a trend or something? I'm confused
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

I believe you, but a lot of people changed their names and now have the previous username written below, it's kinda weird.

Trust in The One True Turtle and TOTTY will make the worries about weirdness all go away for you.

What is feminism?

Difficult question, really. There a re numerous strands of philosophy and political activism that feed into it. I've always thought of it as a subset of egalitarian thought, though some may dispute that.

I identify as an egalitarian but I do recognise the issues that women face around the world. I think that a lot of vocal feminists around on the Internets do give the general movement/idea a disservice, and then of course you get the general dross of people who have a social media account and an axe to grind without actually really studying the thing they're supporting/berating. My fiancéis an academic (microbiologist). Not too long ago it was a male dominated field, now it's more a woman dominated field (anecdotally, going off the laboratories and staff I've known over the years), but there are still very few senior female academics in her sector. It's certainly not down to ability, I can tell you. But perhaps there are other issues, such as lack of available funding and a piss poor recognition of science and engineering by successive UK governments/.

Feminism is as nuanced and diverse as any other political thought, be it rational choice or neo-realism. I'm not really an expert in that field, though, but the wider egalitarian and enlightenment movements have undoubtedly informed feminist thought. I don't think it was ever supposed to be about people accusing someone of being sexist or rapey when they try and chat you up in a lift, but that's the world we live in I guess.

Women are fat. They are considered unattractive because of the patriarchy, and post horrible ugly pictures which bothers you. So they should work out more so they are more attractive to you!

I see.

They should work out or eat right because it's good for them and yes, I wouldn't date a fat chick. Especially not an obese one. That has nothing to do with the "patriarchy" it's just preferences. I don't really dig the rolls of fat look.

Thank you very much for clarifying.

And thank you for the belly laugh.

Well if I was gay or bi no matter how attractive you may be physically I would never be attracted to you: personwhohasausernamethatiswaytoolongandmakesnosense, because I'm simply massively turned off by Smug-Stuck-Up-Looking-Down-On-Other-People-Assholishness. It's one of my primary turn offs. But it's just my preferences.

For those who don't know why I'm calling this guy smug and stuck up it's because he said that anyone who doesn't find the Amazing Atheist funny is too stupid to understand the guy's humor.

So thanks for calling me stupid based on something... well based on something fucking stupid, asswipe.

You speak of "preferences" but then guess what? Whether you find the Amazing Atheist funny or not is a preference. His humour hardly requires intellectual depth. And even if it did, there's plenty of deep humour that a deep person can not find funny and it doesn't mean they're not a deep person. Humour is subjective.

Eh. I get kind of silly when I get no sleep. I'm back and rested. I apologize to everyone. Not redacting my points, I'm acknowledging I went a little overboard.

Nah, my comment was condescending, that's true. Hope you don't mind.

I don't have a issue with feminism i have a issue with this new brand of feminist extremism. If anything i am a feminist i am for woman's
rights however i am not for people who are blatant liars and power abusers which the whole  extremism part of the feminism i do not agree with.

Pssst ... reading works a lot better than assuming.

Yes, that's condescension.
