Think about the analogy a little harder, Min. We are talking about trying to explain breathing to a being who does not understand what breathing or it's affects are- or, analagous to this, trying to explain faith to someone who has none.

Some people on this forum had faith, then lost it. Therefore, I can't see that faith is that unusual or indescribable. It's just another belief, except specific to religion.

And I asked for an example of such a being outside of your own imagination. You expect us to argue against your invisible friend (because we all know what you are talking about, here) which you have constructed inside your own head. Not possible or particularly worthwhile.

Ok I could definately do that, it would take a while depending on your description of 'sentient' are you talking apes here or the kansas school board coz I think I'd rather try the apes.

Any hoo, I may have to teach these 'sentient beings' the scientific principle then build up their knowledge until I can explain it but its definitley do able given time and patience, (and of course the correct vocabulary).

You seem to imply that you've experienced something that makes you have faith in god.

I cant think of anything that could convince me, but you let me know what you experienced and I'll have a look.

Implied here is more predictable goalpost moving: If anyone claims to have faith in a particular god but years later down the track loses said faith, then whatever that was, it wasn't really faith. They were never reeeeeeeeally a believer.

In any other context, this kind of reasoning wouldn't make any sense. "I used to be a Republican, but years later I changed my mind and registered Democrat." "Oh, you never were reeeeeeally a Republican."

And what exactly have you "experienced"?

I've experienced the presence of God. But like the man said, it's difficult to put into words. A lot of you will say that it was just what I imagined based on my belief. But to live it is to breathe it.

I was first a Christian, and then an atheist. But it wasn't until I let myself be open to experiencing God that I was able to experience him. Before that I never really did, even as a Christian.
