Plenty of atheists who are idiots just as there are theist. Just brainwashed by his religion to only believe what he is told, not what he can observe. This is the real reason why organized religion should be eradicated for the betterment of the human race. Not because they believe in an almighty creator. Many agnostics are prepared to admit the possibility. Its because the organized religions brainwash their followers into believing what they are told even if this conflicts with known facts. As for his comments about young atheists and UFOs/aliens... first off a bit presumptuous about the OPs age unless it is posted, but I am only a year shy of 40, so not exactly a spring chicken anymore, and i'm certain there must be life elsewhere in the universe, and I would go so far as to say its pretty certain that more than one of these life forms have achieved true sentience. Sure, i have this belief without any solid evidence, but at least it is based on what we do know about the universe and not unlikely, probability alone suggests it is likely. God(s) on the other hand have very little probability based on what we know of the universe. Gods have never manifested themselves in a way to reliable witnesses or caused anything to occur that cannot be explained as either a natural event or at least have a theoretical scientific basis, even if we do not yet understand the basis for that event (eg: creation of the universe). Saying "God did it" is just a lazy cop out with no proof.

Well yeah... he's not necessarily an idiot. But his belief is certainly fucking idiotic, as is his religion as a whole.

They love to entertain sci-fi notions. Though I think it's an overall trend among atheists of all ages to believe in extraterrestrial life, which is odd since they claim not to believe in God because there's no proof. There is no proof of the existence of god and there is no proof of the existence of 'alien life'. It is a matter of probabilities. Most atheists accept that life began on earth because the circumstances were exactly right for that to happen. We surmise that with nearly an infinite number of chances for it to happen elsewhere, the probability is high that it has. It could happen, because it has happened. Belief in god is not even remotely the same. RE: Evidence God Exists

Well, in an infinite universe then theoretically even gods may exist, just like the FSM may also exist and Russel's teapot may also exist. Maybe one planet has the characters from Twilight on it.... and if so, then Stephen Hawking is right... we should avoid contact with aliens.

The probability of an omniscient/omnipotent/omnipresent being existing are slim to none compared to the probability that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. We know life happened here, therefore it is quite probable that it has happened elsewhere. We do not know that any deities exist, so there is no reason to suppose one does.

I find the idea of alien life interesting in regards to the god concept because. A: if there is alien life it devalues the 'specialness' of life on this planet. B: If there isnt life elsewhere it means that the vast tracts of lifeless space are a big waste making god an incompetent at best. What thinks you all. You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.
