Angel:

Your arguement is not evidence that God exists. You have simply asked a question which is hard to answer, and then claimed that it must be God's doing - well I am going to attempt to answer it.

Firstly, may I say, humans are not the only intelligent lifeform. Dolphins are extremely intelligent for example.

Now to answer your question....

The history of evolution has never been a certainty. The development of species hangs on a knife edge - will the right mutations occur to provide the right adaptations we need to exist? Will we still be able to survive in future, as conditions are changing? Will a big predator come along soon and make us extinct?

The development of humans was never a certainty. Without 'luck' we may have been extinct long ago. We were lucky that beneficial mutations occured, and we are lucky that we have never experienced an extinction event, like the dinosaurs did. Our evolution to become the dominant species was not God's doing. We were simply lucky enough to develop the right adaptations at the right time - thanks partly to beneficial mutations, which are totally random.

Your argument is invalid in the sense that only the most intelligent lifeforms (I use intelligence loosely in this example) could create a belief system, or religion. Therefore, if caterpillars were the most intelligent lifeform, they would claim that their God created THEM in his image, and would use the exact same argument you are using. You are attributing our position as the dominant intelligent species to God - but it could only be the dominant intelligent species who could create religion. Again, I use 'intellgent' loosely.

Exactly what I was getting at in post above.

Loki was obviously wrong here! On the first page of this thread he said this.

Wrong because this is so far the largest thread on the forums!!

I just found that a bit amusing and didn't know where else to express it.

I think this is an argument that has probably been used a couple of times and is a favorite by a lot of atheists but here it goes anyways:

Why is it that your evidence points to God's existence?

I have a book here at my home that is even *older* than your book and it says that all of your evidence points to the existence of an alleged one-eyed-purple-people-eater, so what makes your evidence point to God's existence rather than the purple people eater's existence? But a one-eyed-purple-people-eater in the sky couldn't possibly exist right? That's just nonsense.

I'm not mocking, just using an example

Hmmm... but Christians for example say the older book isn't so important anymore, because now they have the new improved testament where God is not longer an evil wrathful jealous god but a hugging loving caring god who sent himself to earth to be killed so we will all be forgiven for something we havent yet done.

I'm waiting for the Very New Testament. In this book God is pissed off with the ungrateful inhabitants of earth not appreciating his sacrifice and returns to being Yahweh Mark I. All righteous vengeance and genocide. People will attend church once again cowering in fear that their god only lets them live on sufferance and that sinners will be cast into Gehenna to burn for eternity.

All hail the vengeful Yahweh, who makes Zeus look like a pussy.
