Stephen Fry's response was polite and not rude. The reason that some Christians get mad is because they view any criticism of their faith as being a personal attack. For some people even hearing that someone is an atheist is the same as persecuting Christians.

Yep, when I attack religion or god claims, one should look at that blasphemy like two people going to a movie and I am the one going "That movie sucked". Believers need to understand that we are attacking bad claims as far as scientifically and claims of morality. But it is not an attack on them or their rights. It would be like if you had a friend who said "The New York Yankees won the Superbowl". I might like you but the claim itself is utter bullshit. It might be better for the believer to consider maybe they are wrong and are merely in it because of a bad case of warm fuzzies and wishful thinking. This is the kind of response you get from people who lack spiritual discernment. Here’s a suggestion: get on your hands and knees, thrust your legs backward into the plank position, hold for a minute and while doing so, tell yourself you are strong and won’t be fearful of what is message board posted…after that, you should feel empowered.

Brian did not say he felt threatened but he did point out that hell is a meaningless threat by using a comparison to superman. Why do you believe your god gave humans free will? Quote:Hell is a Christianity doctrinal subject and should be ripe for discussion without it being construed as being ‘threatening’. Hell is a mythological place so it is not threatening; however I do find it offensive that some people believe that their fellow humans deserve to be endlessly punished. That is pretty sick. Because there is no god you decided to follow a version that includes eternal suffering just for disagreeing with your fake god. That says something about you

Hell is a Christianity doctrinal subject and should be ripe for discussion without it being construed as being ‘threatening’. Bible says the earth was created in 6 days. I don't care if you claim to be a old earth believer. That does not square with what the bible says. You are cherry picking the bible. And no, I don't feel threatened by fictional beings but that book does contain language in it that condemns people and people do read those words and act on them. No different than if someone read Harry Potter and decided to murder someone over that. Holy books are used as weapons, and the worst part is that humans are willing to murder over these antiquated myths. Why would the bible be written in such an utterly confusing way right from the start? Why not just say what time periods they meant, especially if they expected the reader to somehow realize each "day" was not as long as each other "day"?
Or are you suggesting God rested for 50,000+ years? And why do you honour the sabbath if it was a 50,000 year period and nothing to do with Sunday? In fact, God resting right now would explain a lot. Feel free to send me a private message.
