Catholic vandal on trial: punishment would be an "attack on Christians."

So, the woman who vandalised a satanic monument in Florida went on trial the other day. Predictably, the logic used in her defense is large on lip-trembling persecution porn, and light on rationality or remorse:
Why is it that this is the attitude of so many fundamentalist christians, that they should be able to do whatever they like and not face any consequences?
