Why I'm Still a Christian

Weren't Adam and Eve immortals pre-Apple? If death was a result of the original sin, and eating an apple WAS the original sin, why were they even hungry in the first place? Eating is something us mortal people do to survive, but it doesn't seem like they had that motive. This story is retarded.

With a presence, as "god" - who is equally capable (and likely) of throwing a hissy fit, or manipulating the very fabric of our universe...a terrifying combination. I imagine we're "headed" about the same place we would be if my 3 year old son were "god".

-Or, again.....this all sounds really silly...because reasons.

TRS, maybe you'll like the original story better:
Quote:He laid her down all alone in Dilmun, and the place where Enki had lain down with his spouse, that place was still virginal, that place was still pristine...

In Dilmun the raven was not yet cawing, the partridge not cackling. The lion did not slay, the wolf was not carrying off lambs, the dog had not been taught to make kids curl up, the pig had not learned that grain was to be eaten...

No eye-diseases said there: "I am the eye disease." No headache said there: "I am the headache." No old woman belonging to it said there: "I am an old woman." No old man belonging to it said there: "I am an old man." No maiden in her unwashed state ...... in the city. No man dredging a river said there: "It is getting dark." No herald made the rounds in his border district...

She grew the 'tree' plant, she grew the 'honey' plant, she grew the 'vegetable' plant, she grew the esparto grass (?), she grew the atutu plant, she grew the actaltal plant, she grew the ...... plant, she grew the amharu plant.

Enki was able to see up there from in the marsh, he was able to see up there, he was. He said to his minister Isimud: "I have not determined the destiny of these plants. What is this one? What is that one?"

His minister Isimud had the answer for him. "My master, the 'tree' plant," he said to him, cut it off for him and Enki ate it. "My master, the 'honey' plant," he said to him, pulled it up for him and Enki ate it. "My master, the 'vegetable' plant," he said to him, cut it off for him and Enki ate it. "My master, the alfalfa grass (?)," he said to him, pulled it up for him and Enki ate it.

"My master, the atutu plant," he said to him, cut it off for him and Enki ate it. "My master, the actaltal plant," he said to him, pulled it up for him and Enki ate it. "My master, the ...... plant," he said to him, cut it off for him and Enki ate it. "My master, the amharu plant," he said to him, pulled it up for him and Enki ate it. Enki determined the destiny of the plants, had them know it in their hearts.

Ninhursaja cursed the name Enki: "Until his dying day, I will never look upon him with life-giving eye."
From "Enki and Ninhursag," our earliest copies which pre-date the Genesis myth by a thousand years.

I would really like to see Lek try to rationalize the historical content of this story.

What sort of education level did God create Adam and Eve with? Were they steep in ethical philosophy? I notice they comprehended the words of God directly from his mouth, but how articulate were they? I mean, they were made in full adult form? How much experience could they have had with the subtleties of language? My 5 year old still has problems with sarcasm. These questions all seem really relevant when you consider that their decision making capability will shape the lives of every human being to follow and God treats these two as if every other human being would have behaved exactly the same way. I'm pretty sure Eve would've gotten more than her fill from Socrates when she came up offering a bite right after he had heard the orders straight from the mouth of the divine creator. But no...we get Adam's dumbass as the ambassador for the entire human race...fucking retarded.

Right... You're going to retroactively represent the entire human race. No pressure.

Here's your very simple task which I know you will fail since I know everything.

Go!

Oh, of course this didn't actually happen, but is a metaphor for how fucking LAME MY CREATION IS! Just don't blame me alright. I have to go pretend I had anything to do with evolution. Yeah right! Like a dog could give birth to a t-rex.

I'm hoping you did. What did ya come up with?

God commanded him not to eat of the fruit of the tree and he disobeyed him and did eat of it. I don't know how much knowledge he had of good and evil, but he knew enough not to disobey God's command. I don't know what the tree of the knowledge of good and evil encompassed compared to what he already knew. The name given to the tree was a label. The fact that the it was called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, doesn't presume that he had no knowledge beforehand that he was wasn't to disobey God.

So in your mind god gave A&E just a taste of the knowledge of *good and evil* to know not to disobey gods rule to not eat from the tree?

If god was nice enough to educate these unknowing ignorant newly made adults about eating from the tree of knowledge. Why not just give them all the knowledge of good and evil so they have all the knowledge to make a sound decision.

Does this still seem like a logical progression of events when one of the participants is omniscient.

You didn't take any time to really think about the events leading up to the fall, did you?
