Why are all atheists liberals?
#61
RE: Why are all atheists liberals?
I don't know what I am really. I just want everyone to be happy, but I'm naive about politics. All I know is secular governments are the way to go.
Feel free to send me a private message.

I'm not sure what I am either. On one hand I'm not happy with the fact that my state is the 5th most corrupt in the US. I'm not happy with what congress is doing and even though I am a registered democrat, I have voted the other way in local elections. I guess all in all it depends on where a candidate stands on the issues. I do know that personally, I will never vote for Hillary in 2016. I have my reasons, but that's another thread for another time.

Like I said, I don't know what party line I am. We don't have cable or satellite here so the only news I get is off the local tv station's website or a newspaper. So I'm limited on the goings on in the world unless I get on here and search for current news. I'd love to know what party line I fall into though.

We're not.
Next question, please.
The truth is absolute. Life forms are specks of specks (...) of specks of dust in the universe.
Why settle for normal, when you can be so much more? Why settle for something, when you can have everything?

RE: Why are all atheists liberals?
We have different political systems here in Europe. So the liberal/conservative standard doesn't really apply. It's a party system more than voting for a specific candidate. Also liberal means something completely different in the European context.

So I don't know what I am. I'm certainly rather left leaning when it comes to social issues. I'm for a free market but not for a market running totally unchecked. In my country I usually vote either social democratic, green and at rare occasions liberal, European definition, which means that it's more leaning towards the libertarian angle.

Not All atheists are liberals, you should be careful with blanket statements, although since you got banned I guess I'm just speaking to others who view this thread. I would say most atheists are liberal to some degree because that political stance usually implies less rules, a secular view, and less authority figures, things which are the opposite of religions like Christianity. As for myself I am mostly liberal but, I love me some guns Big Grin

The same way the political right has managed to get rid of the unwanted citizens who don't contribute to the GDP and the faith in Christianity.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I used to be a conservative because I valued self-defense against the Soviets as more important than anything else.

I'm a liberal now because the Soviet threat is gone, most liberals are not weak against external threats like Jimmy Carter was and the conservatives have literally lost their minds - embracing anti-science and the religious right. As far as I'm concerned, the Republicans are not a viable party at the present time. They are "howl at the moon" insane.

I would much prefer that Americans have two (or more, preferably) political parties to choose from but the reality is as present, the Republican party is the party of the ignorant, fucking idiots. I wish it was different but that's the way it is right now. I really wish they would wake to fuck up and join the 21st century but that's not up to me. As long as they remain as they are, I cannot vote for a Republican as mosquito-control officer. They are public enemy number one.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

RE: Why are all atheists liberals?
I would go one step further and say that both conservatives and liberals nowadays are both liberals because their ideas are based on liberalism, capitalism, democracy and individual rights - Liberals may favour a little bigger government but they want to get the government out of people's lives as a general rule (i.e. Liberals wouldn't nationalize the entire economy). There may be some differences between conservatives and liberals but both in america and europe they favour capitalism, globalization, free trade, free enterprise and individual rights. Because of that we are all liberals to some extent, at least because we base our beliefs on classical liberalism and the age of enlightenment

To not be a liberal, one would have to adhere to the third position - Which is composed by alternate usually non democratic non capitalist views like Fascism, Communism, Stalinism, Right-socialism, technocracy, Leninism, National-socialism, Integralism, authoritarianism, Platonism, etc etc. - Basically anything that is not based on the ideas post-1748.

I'm always amused by Americans saying liberals want big government and are socialists when socialists despise liberalism because it is the cause of capitalism, which socialists must be against - Not to mention liberals don't support workers owning the means of production

Republicans in America are liberals with socially conservative viewpoints, but their basic ideology stems from classic liberalism. this may be hard for some americans to understand because liberalism is all america has ever known - No fascism, communism and integralist regimes.

Ultimately all western and many non western societies are organized according to liberalism and liberal governments (with the meaning I just described) - I dunno if liberalism will last forever, but I doubt that things will not change in 100-500 years. We lived before 1748 without liberalism, and now we are happy with it, but eventually new problems will arise and we will progress as a species, some things about liberalism will have to be reformed.

Also from a political standpoint - do you guys want a totalitiarian Orwellian Socialist Government year after year after year? If so, how do you plan on getting rid of the 'unwanted' citizens that don't contribute to our GDP and the faith of Atheism?
First of all, all atheists aren't liberals.

In the U.S. it seems that atheism is more prelevant among liberals/progressives because of the anti-establishment views they hold. Anti-religion, anti-church, anti-tradition etc.
