Easy arguments against the Bible, and religion as a whole

Fair enough.
I was under the impression that I was specificially discussing rape and the implications thereof as a topic.
In this instance, it was specifically addressing marriage as the result of rape not marriage in general.

As such, I do not believe I stated my response to mean that Rape is somehow a marriage proposal to anyone. If my statement can be interpreted as such, then that is a mistake and this is my intention.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan

oh, ok that makes sense
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Quote:I've come to the conclusion that he is not entirely stupid. He just REALLY,REALLY wants the bible to be the word of God.

Perhaps I've been unclear;

'Fuckwit' does not mean stupid, although a fuckwitted person may ALSO be stupid.

It's kind of shorthand for a whole range of things from terminally naive and ignorant to common-or-garden-variety fool. The poor fellow's bloody minded desperation makes him a complete fuckwit, but I agree, not completely stupid.

in a debate, it's common for those who don't have an arguement to attack the person rather than the claims. this is often done in politics and the media and is very effective.

This is NOT a debate,or even an argument. This an atheist discussion forum,on which you have chosen to inflict your fatuous and stunningly ignorant assertions about your personal superstitions. You are simply being treated as your posts deserve; without credibility and with ridicule.Angry

PS it's 'argument'

There is no hypothetical scenario to prove God to be false
and since there is not even an hypothethical scenario, the theory has to be false.

This is assuming that the burden of proof should lie on the atheists, which is a flawed assumption, because those who believe something should have to prove it, not the other way around. We should leave it to the theists to prove the existence of a God.

i could show you all the proof in the world and you would reject it.

Based on all the "proof" you have posted already on this site, it will just be quotes from early christians describing God.

If you have a proof of the existence of a God then post it.

the bible has made some scientific claims that have been very accurate even though they were well ahead of their rime.
Job 26:7- speaks of in the northern heavens there is a vast space in which the most powerful telescopes have been unable to locate any celestial bodies. in every other direction stars can be found but not there. it also says he hangs the earth upon nothing, which is it speaking of the fact that the earth is floating in space not supported by anything.
Isaiah 40:22- says the earth is round and that the universe is expanding. he "streatches the heavens."
Luke 17:24-36- Jesus speaks of his second coming. He points out that for some His return would be during the day and for others it would be at night. this establishes that the earth is round and there is day on one side of the earth and night on the other.

on top of that the bible had the best hygiene guidelines of it's time. that's all i'm posting for now.
