"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

As long as the conversation in the necro'd thread is on topic to the thread's title or OP, I don't have a huge problem with necroposting. In the only other forum I was really active in they preferred that you didn't start multiple new threads on a single topic if there was an existing thread that could be repurposed so I guess I've been on both sides of the debate now. There are positives and negatives about each system.

I still do not understand why that's annoying either.

We do.

I kinda figured as much, but it was worth saying since we were talking about it.

As with any thread, necro or new, it only continues as long as there is interest. When the interest dies, the thread dies.

Maybe the 30/30 rule about links should be applied here too and enforced automatically. The database contains post count, join date and last-post date so it wouldn't be much of a trick to tweak the software.
I don't think I'd want to do that. People are expected to use discretion and in a lot of cases necroposting is fine.

It's the second all-time most active thread, I believe. I should go out on a depressive drunken binge more often. As opposed to staying in on one, clearly.

What are you trying to do, put people out of work? Think of all of the jobs that will be lost if people do not stay on a drunken binge. Do you think that wineries, distilleries, and breweries can continue if people do not buy their products? Do you want people to be fired from their jobs, and their children to starve? Think of the children!

He was saying he should go out when he's on a drunken binge instead if staying home. Not that he shouldn't be on a drunken binge.
