Thank you for sharing your story. I didn't come from a very religious family, they barely wen through the motions. I never really got into it. It must be really hard to change that programming. CBT is good and I am glad you had that option. I have found since I have been n the forum, many new members share the struggles you have mentioned. Welcome!

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Thanks everyone! It is great here, people discuss without being threatened. I was at another forum for atheists/free-thinkers, but it was so hostile. Almost drove me back into the arms of religion.

Welcome aboard.
Always great to meet another heretic. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???"
Welcome. While you are nibbling on Losty's muffins....no double-entendre intended there....consider this comment:
Quote:If we had opened our eyes to the light under the shadows of St. Peter's at Rome, we should have been devout Catholics; born in the Jewish quarter of Aleppo, we should have contemned Christ as an imposter; in Constantinople, we should have cried "Allah il Allah, God is great and Mahomet is his prophet!" Birth, place, and education give us our faith. Few believe in any religion because they have examined the evidences of its authenticity, and made up a formal judgment, upon weighing the testimony. Not one man in ten thousand knows anything about the proofs of his faith. We believe what we are taught; and those are most fanatical who know least of the evidences on which their creed is based. You are now one of the one in ten thousand.
Welcome aboard and enjoy your stay!
