LHC starting up again

That knob can be turnt up to 11 to discover the eye of Anusius.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

It is now hopefully equipped and ready to handle collision energies of 13 TeV as opposed to 8 TeV as before. If all goes according to plan, we should see actual collisions at maximum energy in two months or so!
Their clock seems to be off or is this time delayed in case something happens and it will not be live.

RE: LHC starting up again
It's sad that the US was going to build a supercollider that would've made the LHC look like a fruitloop by size comparison...in Texas...

And then, NOPE. We just. NOPE. I don't even remember why it got cancelled...

Anyway. THIS SHIT IS HYPE. The LHC is rad as fuck. I can't wait to see what new discoveries we make with its new upgrades. Big Grin

RE: LHC starting up again
Superconducting Super Collider was cancelled in tightening budgetary environment of early post Cold War recession essentially to protect funding for NASA's international space station.   It wasn't publically so stated at the time, but I understand that was the behind the scene trade off.   ISS was judged essential for survival of NASA, because Cold War military funding shell game had left NASA essentially a one trick pony.  That trick - the space shuttle - and by extension the pony, can only be justified if it served a crewed space station.

RE: LHC starting up again
It's a sad world we live in in which the idea of scientific progress via space exploration is considered a one-trick pony in the eyes of our national leaders.

Fuck it. It's just plain simply a sad world.
