The problem with disconnecting the battery terminal is that the ECU resets. This means it sends the throttle body to factory setting, and if there is any build up on the butterfly valve, (the car is 16 years old) then the car won't suck air correctly without a throttle body adjustment. Which means it won't hold idle. Which means I have to take it to a mechanic with a VAG-COM who can hook it up to his laptop and do said throttle body adjustment to the tune of $275.
I have tried to find the current draw with my multimeter. It takes so long for whatever the problem is to kill a battery that I'm afraid maybe my ammeter isn't sensitive enough.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
