My parents were gone shopping so I was the only one home. I suddenly get a knock on my door so I opened it to find Jehova's witness. They guy started to speak about how amazing Jesus is. The bullsh*t was intensifying. So, I just interrupted him and told him that I don't believe in that crap and that I'm an atheist and I politely asked him to leave. But no, instead he asks me this magnificent question "You! An atheist! That can't be you're too young to be one! Are you sure?". He left me speechless. With no response I just slammed the door.
Any thoughts on this?
Why sure, here's some thoughts. A 'theist' holds a belief in a god. An atheist does not hold any belief in any gods. If you are not a 'theist', then you are an atheist.
Some people object to the definition:" Atheism is not believing in any gods". It does not necessarily mean that one believes there are NO gods, (big difference). Why (!) those people say, that means that a rock is an atheist. To which I would respond: "Well a rock is certainly atheist!"
Human beings who are not 'theists', are atheists. After that categorisation, we are a homogeneous bunch, with no claims to goodness in general, (nor badness in general, as some 'theists' would say).
So if someone is categorised to be atheist, one has a lot of work to do after that, to find out what they stand for, if anything. A baby is atheist, because it does require a certain amount of learning and decision making to be a 'theist'. A baby is too young to be a theist, so they are an atheist by default.
This means that someone who claims to be an agnostic on the existence of "God", is not a 'theist', and so by default, is also an atheist, (an agnostic atheist). Your JW visitors, piterski123, have a poor understanding of what an atheist really is.
There are no atheists in terrorist training camps.
