Party of Wedge Issues Whines About Division

Parkers is right that Obama squandered his mandate and momentum by trying to reach out to the GOP and give everything away, hoping the GOP will return the favor. This was foolish and anyone paying attention at the time knew that, including me as I was screaming at the television. He threw his base under the bus, sacrificed them for a reconciliation and national healing that was never going to happen, and couldn't understand why liberals got demoralized in 2010. We must be a bunch of spoiled kids who didn't get everything we wanted. "Buck up and stop whining" he told us right before the election. Great moment in leadership! That'll fire up the base!

What I would have done:

Job 1: Filibuster reform. Nothing will get done without it. Restore the "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" rule. You want to filibuster, you have to stand and speak. No more of this John McCain raises his finger, announces a filibuster and leaves the Senate.

Job 2: Joe Lieberman, if you want back in the good graces of the Senate, the price will be your support for filibuster reform. You don't get your plumb seats back for nothing.

Jobs that follow: Real stimulus package (no tax cuts, infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure), income tax on income over 250K goes up to 50%, Wall Street reform, Medicare for All

obama and the democrats had control of the White House and control of Congress during the first half of his first term. He didn't get shit accomplished when he had the opportunity to do so. He was more concerned with campaigning for obama care that he neglected everything else that was falling down around us, like jobs and the economy....and the deficit grew larger.

Well, the deficit had to grow larger given the economy at the time. But Obama cowered every time the Republicans threatened a filibuster. On some of the issues, I think he should have called the bluff and let the filibusters go in, and then beat the Republicans over the head with their rejectionism. While he may not have won too many independents with such a strategy, he certainly would have energized Dems and done better in the mid-terms, I think, much as Clinton did better in 1996 after the 1995 showdown/shutdown with the Republican Congress.

They didn't need to. Obama crumbled every time they hinted at using the tactic.

Doesn't seem to be working...like everything else the republicunts pull.

As shitballs like Adolf demonstrate, the negativity and vaguely stupid platitudes which are the republicunts stock in trade don't impress anyone but their own brain-dead fascist supporters.

You think *you* are going to take back the White House if the GOP wins? That's a cute thought.

Probably not but at least those he admires and identifies with will be in control.  He'll get a good feeling every time the GOP does something anti-poor, you know, the lazy bastards that suck off all of us working class heros?  When he gets a clue that no one sucks away more from the working class than the 1%'ers .. well .. that just isn't likely to happen.

It's handy that the american electorate has the memory of a not-so-bright gerbil. It's the same thing every year. President of party A gets stonewalled by congress of party B. Party A bitches about obstructionism and just wanting up or down votes. Party B just waits until the midterms.

Shitty political tactics have no party affiliation. People not being smart enough to realize that is a big part of the problem.

Party of wedge issues? Both parties care about the same few issues. Give me a break. You are the last person who should complain about whining.
