Do you think I was being a bigot?
April 7, 2010 at 2:15 pm
I was having a discussion with my Christian friend about Creationists who believe the world was made in seven days and when I stated my argument that they should be educated about the truth and how much their ignorance annoys me, he said that that I have no right to say that and said I was being a bigot.
He also went on about how Christianity teaches good morals and helps people and I couldn’t really think of an argument to counter this idea.
So do you think I was being a bigot?
Thanks

Yes you were. And I would have been too.
The teaching of good morals I do have some question marks there because Christianity teaches things I do and do not agree with. I would agree with those good teachings even if Ricky Gervais would teach them. It would not make me a Gervaisian.
Best regards,

Better to state that their beliefs are about as substantiated at the invisible dragon on your garage that breathes smokeless, heatless fire. That shuts them up pretty quickly and avoids those fun statements.

You should have told him that if he thinks that being an arrogant, homophobic, child beating supporter of the slave trade that considers half the population of the Earth, i.e. women to be beasts of burden and under the control of men a good set of morals then, fine.

Christian morals are modelled on perfection, where non theistic morals are modelled on humanity. Christianity has to win there.

I assume you are talking about Humanism?
If you model the morals on humanity's need rather than those of some imperfectly perfect sky cretin then surely 'non theistic' morals would win.
