Ask a Finn!

RE: Ask a Finn!
Quote:How do you feel about salmiakki?

I love salmiakki that does not contain sugar. Sugar makes the taste worse.

Quote:What do Finns like to do for vacation? And where do Finns like to go for vacation?

In summer they go boating and fishing or just relaxing and sauna bathing to their summer cottages that are usually located next to lakes or the sea. Finns also like to pick berries and mushrooms. Aren't we barbaric?

Quote:Is it that cold in Finland as they say?

And are Muslims really invading Finland?

It is cold, but not freezing cold.

I heard that Muslims are invading Sweden. You never know where they continue after that.

Quote:Are Finns usually so expressively joyous?

Just give them alcohol and they might give you a smirk back.

Serious "nerd" question.
Are you disappointed when Nokia jumped into bed with M$ instead of continuing development of the native OS?

Are you a fan of Kimi Raikkonen?
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Do you like any of our British comedy? How does your comedy compare?

(British comedy comprises of two competing genres, laughing at people getting hurt and laughing at people making jokes about dicks and farts.)

Oh yeah! I love the bit when the guy slips over and cracks his head open, that's a riot. Then he farts too! Ahah! Genius. The classic Fawlty Towers.

At the time it seemed like a wrong and desperate move to make, which it definitely was, but they were anyway on the way to hell as they couldn't compete with others in the business. We don't talk about Nokia that much anymore. It was good run but they were a failure in the end.

Quote:Are you a fan of Kimi Raikkonen?

Don't follow F1 so I'm not a fan but don't dislike him either. He seems like a good guy.

Quote:Do you follow Veikkausliga?

No. I only follow NHL hockey.

Finnish comedy quite often dark and dry, sometimes absurd or just weird, and sometimes they unsuccessfully try to copy British and American styles, but most of our humor is unique, which is why foreigners never get it.

A couple of clips from my favorite Finnish comedy show:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzHLxtNKUBw (this one spoofs American crime thrillers, it's in English)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huErwI1SgJs (and this one is a Star Trek parody, without subtitles, but the point is that one of the characters is trying to understand what "emotions" mean)

British comedies are really popular here. I love Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, The Office, Extras etc.

As you know, the bible mentions parts of Africa and Europe, and we know that the garden of Eden was in Texas, but why was Finland left out?
