AC1, 2 and black flag seem like the only genuine full blown attempts at a world like that IMO. Or at least they're the most innovative.

I love black flag because it takes everything great about assassins creed and adds pirates. Don't really need to say much more there. 

AC2 was a really great sequel to the first game, they improved on nearly everything and the world had a genuinely different flavour from the first.

AC1? I think people underestimate what a defining game it was. I remember at the time, even for all its criticisms, it was one of the most unique games ever made. I think the innovation in the AC franchise has slowly waned though, I remember really getting into the story in the first and second games, but after that I couldn't give two shits because I could see it was going nowhere. 

I think Black flag was only really as good as it was because you can't go much wrong with pirates. There's not exactly a market flooded with pirate games. That said, the sailing and ship mechanics were awesome and really give you a sense of freedom unparalleled in the open world genre. It's a pretty faultless game and as of right now I think it's the best AC experience. 

Brotherhood was great content wise, with lots of cool stuff to do, but gameplay wise it was the same as AC2. It was really more of an expansion. 

AC3 tried really hard and had its moments. I loved the environment but it did feel a little too restricted at times, and the pacing of the story was AWFUL.

Haven't played any of the others but from what I understand they just look like cashgrabs.

I love the franchise! I've played AC1, AC2, brotherhood and I'm now playing through black flag. I missed AC3 as I heard it got lukewarm receptions and black flag was superior.

I actually fully played through AC1 after playing AC2, I had assumed the original was "flawed" after hearing this from various people. However, I don't think it is flawed, I think it's flat out amazing.

AC2 was even better, absolutely brilliant. I admit brotherhood felt more like an expansion pack, that's the biggest problem with these games. Black flag is jaw droppingly good in almost every way, come on, you're a Welsh ninja pirate! It's extremely polished, so much fun, very big, and really satisfying to play. The only thing I don't like about it so far are some of the tailing and eavesdropping sections; sometimes they are boring, and sometimes the "you got detected, start again" mechanic kind of breaks the fluidity of the experience. Apart from that though, absolutely killer. I'm about 75% through it now, and I'd be surprised if I didn't play through it all again afterwards. I'll be pushing for collecting every damn thing and 100% synch first.

Ac2 is still the best so far. Though I like 3 and black flag.

I think 3 gets a bad rap but it's not a bad game. The only real thing wrong with it is that the story is so disjointed.

It was generally great fun improving your homestead or whatever that area was. Thing is, black flag allows you to do all that and more, and it has pirates, so yeah, black flag is the superior game IMO.

I liked 3 and Black Flag. My only issue with 3 was it was super buggy to start. 3 or 4 updates in, it was finally playable. I didn't mind the story, because it introduced the Aquila, the reception of which brought about Black Flag.

My favorite of the franchise is easily Black Flag. I might just buy it for PS4 so I can play it with better graphics.

I'm thinking of running back through the franchise because I only played each once when it came out, and I had Gamefly so I don't own AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations, or Black Flag.

Does anyone know why they stopped you being able to kill innocent people with the hidden blade in AC4? (Or perhaps they did it in AC3 as well). I used to enjoy killing bystanders, but now I have to aim a gun at them and shoot. That's a lot more effort.

Not a big deal I know, just wondered what would motivate such a change! Were players complaining of accidentally killing bystanders too much or something, and getting desynchronised? Personally I like doing it. But then I'm weird.

You could only kill like 3 before you desynchronize... I think people were probably complaining about desynching in a crowd.

What I loved about AC3 was the setting. The cities were ok, but the frontier was so beautiful. The story wasn't bad, it was just poorly put together. I also do like Connor as a character, which seems to be an unpopular opinion but oh well.
