Of course there are real conspiracies. Fox news is an example of this. They conspire to mislead and manipulate people in order to get them to vote against their best interests, and in the financial interests of Fox and other corporations.

I think that conspiracy theorists represent a deviant way of processing information, but I don't think that deviation is the same as in those who embrace woo or religion. In short, I think CTs represent a different kind of thinking about evidence, but that different way is distinct from the different way in which provocateurs of woo think.

Governments are usually good at keeping secrets, but as Stephen Fry pointed out they have an even better track record of getting found out - Clinton couldn't even keep it a secret what he did with his dick. Over here, our lot failed to hide how much in the way of expenses they were claiming for second homes, moat cleaning, houses for ducks and Mars bars.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

"A conspiracy theorist is a person who tacitly admits that they have insufficient data to prove their points. A conspiracy is a battle cry of a person with insufficient data."

As I've said elsewhere - of course 9/11 was a conspiracy. Just not one where POTUS, FLOTUS, SCOTUS, FIDOTUS, CIA, FBI and FLEUROP were all in on it.
