R'uh r'oh, Sunday school teacher impregnates teen

We are not equal in our crimes.  I have never committed the crime that guy did.  Nor have I ever committed a worse or comparable crime.  So I am better than he is.

I would hope that you are better than him, too, but given your determination to maintain that he isn't that bad, it makes me wonder.

But let us see if we can get you to see reason.  Do you believe everyone deserves to be put in prison?  Or do you believe that only some people deserve to be put in prison?  If you believe the latter, then you don't think everyone is equal or equally bad.

Not equal in the literal way, there's a thread on it going on. Social equality =/= literal equality

And you could at least admit he's a shithead. it sounds like you're trying to justify his actions...

C4RM5 sounds like he is saying others are doing it too! Why pick on the poor, long-suffering Christians? Tu Quoque fallacy anyone?

C4RM5 - do you deny religious people of all faiths don't play the holier-than-thou card on a fairly regular basis? It's part of the core mindset. We see them here all the time, albeit sometimes couched in fake humility. I see them all the time in real life. I see them on the news, in their writings. I see them more often even than I see dead people. And I see dead people!

For me, it's the hypocrisy of someone in a position of de facto moral leadership, using that position for selfish, and in this case, criminal activities. Exposing them, whether Christian, Jew, Muslim or secular is a worthy pursuit. It doesn't help to say "many others are doing it too!" Makes you look like an enabler...

Meanwhile up in Heaven, your god stands idly by, wringing his poor little Jesus-hands in impotent rage: "just you wait until you die and I get to send you to my Eternal Torture Chamber! That'll fix ya!"

I don't think Mike Huckabee is going to step up to the plate for this inseminater.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Damn, what hope is there for us ??

This is what C4RM5 doesn't grasp. Overtly religious people are specifically called out in these instances because of the incessant moralizing. If their argument from morality is insufficient to influence the behavior of the devout then there can't possibly be any practical benefit to the scheme. This becomes painfully obvious when one considers that benefits and consequences aren't doled out until after death.

Miscreants of all sorts are loathed for their misdeeds; however, believers are specifically noted for their hypocrisy.

And some of those overtly churchy types are not shy at all about wanting their god's edicts, decrees, rules, commandments, laws, and whims ensconced in the law of the land for everyone, especially when god's take on how things should be just happens to align with how they want things to be.

I wonder if they'll be an abortion.

I am going to guess that there won't:

Oh please...

These types of people will exist in any church congregation, (believer/make-believer/unbeliever) but "ye shall know them by their fruit". Was not Judas counted among the disciples, yet Jesus referred to him as a devil?

What you don't seem to recognize is that when one holds the title of priest or vicar or pastor or father, one has a moral responsibility that is the greater for the religious claim that backs the title and the position.

The weightier the responsibility, the purer must be the behavior.

You seek to excuse their behavior in this post by saying, "no one is perfect" -- but these guys aren't just anyone.  They are the guys who claim to be your moral leaders.

This is the best you can do?

Forgive my going into a little detail here, but what makes him "particularly bad" is that he took advantage of the trust emplaced in him given his position in the church as he seduced a child who was not mature enough to see what was going on. When you combine the authority an adult has in the eyes of a child with the authority a church official has over a child believer, this sort of abuse is really a matter of a wolf in the flock.

He abused the trust of a naive child, even as he proclaimed his moral authority to lead his flock.

Then perhaps he should quit preaching to others and clean up his own backyard ... and stop abusing the trust of innocents while he's at it.

While you're thinking about that, ponder this as well: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?se...tthew+7:18

I should think a moral church would not produce immoral leaderships.

Probably because there isn't a fan-base with ready donations at the ready.

That's right. Your shitty little faith doesn't guarantee anything outside of your own smug sanctimony on an Internet board, until another Christian gets caught being a molester, and then you run like roaches from the light away from the example.
