Now, would you please answer my question:
Why do you, dyresand, say that Jesus never existed when noted scholars such as Bart Ehrman and historian Tim O'Neill, who are also atheists, have explained how we can know that he did exist?
Thanks.
If you even looked at a map or anything in general of the sort. The problem being mainly is pin pointing the exact date of his birth.
I gave a careful explanation of the dating of Jesus' birth year in my "Historical Reliability" thread. We know that Jesus was born in either 3 or 2 BC.
Quote:Its a good thing we know he was "born" in Bethlehem.
Okay.
Quote:The other issues being the exact date no on knows people say december 25th it is a pagan holiday of sex getting pregnant and such. So going from there no one knows his exact birth date or even the date of his death. <- key thing. From there keep a eye on that.
How is the exact day, December 25, important to Christianity? It's probably pretty close (some would say exact), but it could also simply be the day we CHOOSE to celebrate his birth. I don't see a problem.
Quote:Now question this did mary the mother of jesus exist i'll say no to that too. Did she or did she not exist is what ties this into the whole fact being did jesus even exist at all. You would have to find her birth date and her date of death do even find out even if said person jesus existed. I did the search myself did i find someone named mary from the bible in any sort of historical record no. So no her name wouldn't be mary
Not in English, no. So, in the face of evidence that Jesus did exist, you're reduced to claiming that we have to have proof that Mary existed in order to prove that Jesus existed? Desperation time...
Quote:So you need to go back a bit further and find out did the jewish temple of virgins exist. Again i looked it up because if mary or miriam did exist the temple should have also. So time to lay the the smack down on this jesus myth.
1. The temple never existed. Even looking through google to find some sort of information nothing was found even looking deeper still noththing
So, there was no temple in Jerusalem? Could you then explain why the Jews pray at the Wailing Wall to this day?
Quote:2. More than likely mary was never a virgin.
Never? Not even when she was a little girl? What are you suggesting?
Quote:3. The only real support for the jewish temple virgins is found in roman catholoic writings in support of the roman catholic doctrine of the perpetual virginity of mary.
Who said anything about temple virgins? I'm only responsible for defending ONE virgin.
Quote:what does this all mean? you may ask yourself. You have been lied too my good friend, you have been lied too.
Also there is no historical information of a mary or miriam of the bible existing only those in roman catholic writings.
I could provide all sorts of arguments concerning the Perpetual Virginity of Mary. But for now, read the following passage:
Luke 2:36-38
36 There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
What is the significance of this passage? What does it add to the story that Luke is telling?
Luke tells us that Anna was married for seven years before her husband died. Assume that Anna was probably married no later than age 20. This means that she had been living in the Temple for 57 years at the time that she encountered Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. Scripture also records that she was a prophetess, yet no prophecy was given by Anna in Luke's Gospel; that was done by Simeon. So, why is Anna's name mentioned here at all?
Could it be that Mary, too, had lived in the Temple for many years from the time she was a young girl and that as a result, she and Anna knew each other personally? Could these few verses simply be a personal anecdote, a fond remembrance of an old friend, recorded by Luke as Mary told him the stories of Jesus' early days?
