Athiesm, religion, and drugs...
#21
RE: Athiesm, religion, and drugs...
What if you beleive in the possible existence of a creator, but are not aligned with any religion? Unless Irish Buddhist counts. It doesn't. I am a believer, yes. I am not religious though. Dern it I don't fit in the pigeon holes again! I have had a life long problem with drugs. It is difficult. I suppose I''ve had many adventures and stories to tell. I have gone about as far from here in my own head as possible. I don't think I am gonna live too long or have a family or those normal people things. I would like to, but I think choices I made long ago will be the deciding factor. These days I just smoke. I guess I am still 'always high' but I certainly am not doing enough MDMA in a night to kill a horse anymore. I don't know the correlation between belief and drug abuse. You could say believers are more controlled, and so don't. You could say atheists are more open, so do. You could say atheists are less stressed, and so don't. Or that believers are less stressed, so don't... Kinda blurry.

Me neither. Thank Goodness.
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

@ the OP.

I put that I don't do drugs (and obviously not religious), because I assume you meant "recreational"

As for medicated I'm on 600mg of Lithium a night (it's a mood stabilizer (no joke by the way)) Big Grin (recently had it reduced from 800mg).

What drugs Pip? I take a whole bunch of prescribed drugs,. They are to lower my blood pressure, lower my cholesterol, control my diabetes and osteoporosis. Without them I would probably be dead.

I've also been treated for unipolar depression for over 35 years. I've been stable for 5 years ,on an SSRI. Tried to get off the SSRI ,under medical supervision, last year. I was suicidal within a few weeks.

Pip, if you are going to make that kind of statement, perhaps be a little specific, citing the evidence for your opinion. If you don't have any evidence ,perhaps shut the fuck up lest some unwell person follows your advice.

Because you smoke a little recreational weed ? Wait it's Frodo---OK.

Not that I really care if you smoke your brains out. I'm in favour of legalising ALL illegal drugs.

My arguments are pragmatic,not moral.

I do drugs. Not so much illegal drugs, as it wasn't common in my culture when I could afford it. Friends who did were total twats or out to prove something. I've spent a lifetime repulsed by the stuff of medication. I think of it as lowering one's defenses, and I try to avoid it.

I tried abstinence for a few years. I found I got high on everyday things more.
